We rescued Weebles from Hamilton Animal Control! Weebles was brought into HAC as a stray. She’s a very sweet hedgehog, but shelter staff noticed right away that she was having some mobility issues. Ladybird rescued her from HAC and took her straight to the vet. After an exam and xrays, Webbles was diagnosed with a condition called Wobbly Hedgehog Syndrome. WHS is is a progressive, degenerative, neurological disease that has no known treatment or cure. Though Weebles has some trouble standing up and will tip over, she is not in any pain, and is still eating, drinking, and doing all the typical hedgehog things…. Because of her condition, Weebles is not a candidate for adoption. She will remain in our care in a permanent foster home until the condition progresses to the point where she doesn’t have a good quality of life. We’re happy to give her lots of love and proper care until then. Welcome Weebles! Big girl Kamira loves her Forever Foster family! Her best friend is even their family cat! 🐶🐱 Kamira has fit in so wonderfully with their other dogs as well! She has a big goofy heart, loves to snuggle and take up her Forever Foster Moms bed! We also received Remy's little paw print back and his ashes. I wanted to take time to thank the fosters that snuggle these babies until they come to us at the sanctuary. Barbara was a temp foster Mom to Boots, Remy, and Beansy before they all came here. Temp foster homes save lives. If they had not been pulled from the kill shelter to safety until we had space they most definitely would not have had a chance. Boots and Remy have passed on but Beansy still shines for them all!! 🐶 Thank you, Barbara for loving all three of these boys 💙 When local rescues are asking for temp fosters please stand up! It could be a weekend or a few weeks such a short amount of time needed to save lives! We love each and every senior that comes along to the sanctuary! Bessie update! When Bessie came into our care back in August, she was a mess. She was severely matted, her teeth were rotten, and she had a large, pendulous mammary tumour. We got her the spay and tumour removal surgery she needed, and later, a much needed dental surgery. She recovered like a champ from both surgeries. Such a little trooper! Over the past few months, Bessie has been back and forth to the vet for stomach issues. We’d think we had things sorted, and then she’d have another bout of trouble. Medication and a food change eventually helped her feel better. This month, when we thought things were finally sorted with her tummy, Bessie started coughing. It started out as just a bit of a cough, and then progressed to a serious cough. An x-ray at the vet this week revealed that Bessie has multiple large masses all through her lungs. Her last x-ray in August showed that her lungs were clear, so these are fast growing masses that are unfortunately likely cancerous. This is not something that can be fixed with surgery, and the masses are not the kind that can be reduced with medication. Thankfully, Bessie is still doing well. Though she’s coughing, she’s still her happy self, and she’s eating normally. She’s been put on medication to help with the cough, and she’s considered palliative at this point. With this development, we’ve made the decision to make Bessie a permanent resident. Her foster family are more than happy to continue to love and care for her until her quality of life allows. She’s right where she should be with her forever foster family.
