Everything you write makes me laugh or asedkjfglhldk
š„ŗ Is there a certain type of moment or common interaction between your characters that never fails to put you in your feels?
𤔠What's a line, scene, or exchange you've written that made you laugh?
<3333
::hugs you tight::
I have to say that I'm a serious sucker for the brushing of the hair out of the eyes moment. I may have self indulgently written many a scene where one bro is looking after a vulnerable bro and brushes hair out of their eyes, or runs fingers through their hair. It is likely proof that I'm a squishy pile of goop, but I do like the gentle moments of love and togetherness. You are not alone, I'm here with you, I love you, kind of thing.
Ooooh, now I'm all smushy :D
Made me laugh? I have to say dumping TB1 in the pool and Scotty's reaction is memorable :D I still love that fic. All your fault. No idea how I wrote it. Poor Scotty :D
I know I come across as a whumper, but at heart I'm really just into hurt/comfort for the comfort. As I get older, I'm skipping the hurt and going straight for the comfort cos brothers make it easier :D Though a little plot with action definitely never hurts.
Also, a very young Alan might be trying to steal a Thunderbird right now...and that's all your fault, too. ::hugs you to bits::

Been futzing around with this for a long while (mostly because I needed SOMETHING fun to focus on while dealing with the watermain bursting, losing most everything I own, repairing the house, insurance, etc) and Iām in the homestretch now, so I wanted to show it off.Ā Ā
All the hatches and bays are separate layers so they can all beĀ āopenedā individually in the PDF file, but here is a pic with all hatches and bays open
Still need to add in her gattling gun, grapples, etc.Ā Plus I want to do cutaways to show the interior.Ā Once One is done, Iāll likely try to do the otherĀ āBirds and one or two of the key Pod Vehicles.
Edit:Ā The thruster blocks are mobile / hinged for maneuvering (ala 2004 TB1)
Hello Everybody! I have a question. Where do you guys buy the Thunderbirds action figures? I live in the US I can't really find anything even online :(
Have you got any headcanons for the privateers AU that probably won't come up in the fic? Which brother would be the best at sword fighting? Who can hold his rum the best?
Fun, thanks for asking! I am not sure what will and will not come up in the main fic - since this is the first, I'm also world building and I like scenes and moments even if they don't move the plot forward. So world's my oyster at this point. :) There's plenty of little things. In place of a headcanon, can I give you a picture of the hero forge miniature design I used for Scott?
Full transparency - I haven't done a long fic, so hopefully the pacing will be fine.Ā
For the other two questions:
I would be remiss to give them swords and not let them at least spar, so I am sure that will come up. They all can sword fight, but they go about it differently. Just based on skill alone, the Captain is the best at close quarter combat with his sword. Scott is most evenly matched against Gordon, though Gordon will use the ship itself to his advantage. He's the little shit that will climb the rigging to get the upperhand and he knows how to fight dirty. Gordon likes to remind them all if they get on the wrong side of the pirates that sail the Caribbean, they are not going to fight honorably. (My version of military!bros) Alan likes to then remind them that they probably shouldn't bring swords to a gun fight.
Virgil can hold his own; he has muscle advantage but fighting is not his most natural state of being. He's more likely to try knocking them out and capturing with enough hesitation for someone to try to use his kindness against him. If he's protecting his family and crew though, he uses his knowledge of the human body to his advantage. Makes him quite lethal if you make him angry, but that's not what happens when he spars.
John is happy to carry the sword ceremoniously and is comforted by the protection it affords him. He can fight the grunts, but would rely on other tactics to fight the BBEG. He's a smart guy - logically he might actually come to the decision Alan's right and grab a gun. [at least that's how I picture it now, so subject to change. When I go to write it, who knows what the boys will do. They write the story not me]
For drinks: John and Scott because they know how to pace themselves. John's preference however is wine and Scott's is scotch.
Not sure why this ended up as silly nonsense, but here you go!
Send me a number, and Iāll write a drabble!
148. Are we lost, or do you know where we are?
āDo you?ā
Virgil points at the big blue arrow on the floor. āIām following the signs.ā
āAnd Iām trying to keep us from being kicked out,ā Scott retorts, only to make an abrupt ninety-degree turn when he catches blond hair flashing between hanging rugs.
āYou mean again,ā Virgil corrects him, following.
āWeāve never been kicked out of this IKEA, so no, not again. Gordon, get back here. Alan, you too.ā
A cackle the wrong side of maniacal, a mad dash for the trampolineāer, bed section, and Scott sighs, slumps. āLost in hell with hellions.ā

Hit me with all the big brother Scott feels you got :D
...I wasnāt expecting anyone to actually call me out on this but I suppose if anyone was going to, itād be you.Ā (Good to see you, btw.Ā Youād been gone a while when I first found the fandom on tumblr so I knew all your old gifs and stuff but never expected to actually interact!)
Big brother Scott.Ā Where do I even start, because thereās just so much I donāt even know how to put it into words (I tried, once, by writing a fic about it).
So you asked for it, but this is ridiculously long (if I could churn this much out this quickly for my uni assignments Iād be laughing) so to spare anyone who doesnāt want to read about how much I adore big brother Scott itās under a cut.
And yes, this only scratches the surface because putting emotions into words=hard.Ā But I am alwaysĀ up for talking about Scott.
In TOS (which I havenāt seen for a while and my memories of how some of the episodes went down are super hazy - didnāt bring my DVDs to uni with me which is one huge Regret right now), itās subtle for the most part, mainly because of the 1960s ideas of stoicism etc. heavily influencing the storytelling, but you do get the frequent worries when heās stuck at Mobile Control and one of his brothers (normally Virgil, because TOS played really heavily on that duo) ending up in a pickle somewhere mid-rescue.Ā Honestly, the mental strength he has to be able to sit at Mobile Control and notĀ jump in the moment something goes wrong with his brothers is incredible.
One thing that does really stick out for me, though, is Atlantic Inferno.Ā Now I have a few grumbles about this episode - mainly Jeff-related (I have a lotĀ of grumbles about how Jeff treats Scott in general in TOS but thatās not big-brother feels so weāll save that rant for another time) - but the thing I absolutely love is that his first instinct as soon as Jeff is gone is to call John.Ā And it kills me a little inside that John is confusedĀ by the call, as though he doesnāt get normal social calls from his family (more grumbles at TOS!Jeff here), but the fact is that the literal first thing Scott does with the entire command of IR is call his out-of-his-reach little brother to check in.Ā And I love that so much.Ā Itās a subtle thing, especially because itās also shown asĀ āScott wanting to prove himself and find something to doā so the big brothering aspect of that scene is kinda masked, but itās there and for TOS itās a pretty big deal.
Then, of course, we have Cry WolfĀ and Security HazardĀ (and to a lesser extent, Give or Take a Million), where we have literal children for Scott to interact with!Ā Cry Wolf, in particular, is heavy on the big brothering - multiple aspects of it, actually.Ā Thereās the stern almost parental stuff at the start, where Scott tells them off for the false alarm, but then he does a 180 and seemingly rewards them by bringing them back to base, despite Operation Cover-Up and all that (and how he got that past Jeff I have no idea but you go, Scott!).Ā And of course thereās that iconic scene at the end where he agrees to use their emergency escape and ends up covered in hay after it goes vaguely wrong (but doesnāt actually seem mad at all).Ā And I just love this.Ā Thereās a really good fic that I unfortunately do not remember the name nor author of that addresses how Scott dealt with the boys, but it basically boils down to Scott really wanting to look after them and let them have fun because theyāre brothers with a dead mother and always-busy father and doesnāt that sound familiar?Ā The fact that he goes out of his way to play IR with them at the end, despite it being unprofessional and actually a little dangerous for him is one of the most openly big-brother things he does in TOS and I adore it.
And yes, Iām gonna poke at that 2004 movie, too, because despite it being terrible for any Tracy whose name isnāt Alan or Jeff (and full of so many plot holes - I may or may not be plotting an entire rewrite fic with about 300% more Tracy brothers and many lessĀ plot holes) we still have a few little bits of Big Brother Scott shining through!Ā Thereās the obvious bits, like the showing off in TB1 at the start (ridiculous boy all too happy to see Alan coming home), and the brotherly banter at the dinner table, and even the way heās running hell for leather when the alarm for TB5 goes off (compared to the other three, that boy is desperate).Ā And of course the whole time heās onĀ TB5, worrying about John, all of them when the station starts shutting down on them, AlanĀ back on Earth.Ā Lots of panicking Scott in the movie (shame itās all background because the scriptwriters decided Alanās the only brother that deserves any real screentime, and maybe a liiiiiiittle John as plot device), but the thing I absolutely adore is the insinuation that gives me one of my biggest headcanons for the movie canon.
Alan knows the access code for TB1.Ā Alan knows how to pilot TB1 (albeit not perfectly).Ā There is really, only one conceivable way he knows these things when Jeff is adamant that heās not allowed near theĀ ābirds, and that is a certain big brother going behind Dadās back.Ā Was Scott training Alan behind Jeffās back?Ā Well, no-oneās gonna persuade me he wasnāt, and honestly Scott blatantly disobeying Jeff to keep his littlest brother involved and vaguely pacified is the most big brother thing ever (would I do that for my little sister?Ā HaveĀ I disobeyed my parents to secretly help my sister with a thing?Ā Hell yeah).
Itās only a small thing, really, and yeah the other three brothers are definitely in on that as well (he knows how to use way too much of their gear for that not be true, and even BrainsĀ is probably in on it, otherwise keeping it from Jeff so completely successfully wouldnāt have been possible) but itās something I latched onto and you can pry that from my cold, dead hands.
And TAG.Ā TAG, TAG, TAG, where they reallyĀ brought Big Brother Scott to the fore.Ā And it starts off early.Ā Episode One, Ring of Fire Part 1Ā early.Ā I have said this before (maybe not on tumblr, perhaps, but definitelyĀ to all the friends Iāve ever forced to watch this ep which is quite a few that this point), but we get the perfect insight to Scott in this ep.Ā Grumpy, not particularly happy about TB1 being under maintenance and not ready for flight before being tested but stays back because yeah, okay, itās an underwater rescue, TB1 isnāt reallyĀ needed, heāll just stay on comms and bother his brothers from home.Ā Then they lose contact with Gordon.
There is literally nothing Scott can do about this.Ā Hell, thereās nothingĀ Virgil can do and heās on the scene already.Ā But Scottās first reaction is to jump in a high speed jet with a brand new, untested engine, and push it as fast as possible to get there anyway.Ā Because heās scared about Gordon and entirely disregards his own safety to get there even though thereās nothing he can do.Ā The first time I saw that, I was fullyĀ expecting something to go wrong with TB1 with the amount they were bigging up how untested the new engines were, blah-blah-blah.Ā And honestly, that just set Scottās character up so well.Ā Reckless flyboy who just gets worseĀ the moment thereās a little brother in trouble.Ā (and yes, I know, they deliberately staggered the launches in the first two eps so we could independently see and appreciate all the cool launch scenes theyād created, but the way they did it with Scott was beautiful).
It gets hammered home a little more in Space Race.Ā Thatās very much a John and Alan ep and I appreciate it, but Scott taking the time (that he absolutely did not have) to check in on Alan as soon as he found out things were gettingĀ āa little rough up thereā and fussed over how he looked stressed and generally smother-henned from a different rescue that was probably a lot worseĀ at that point than Alanās little game of tag with a mine judging by the background screaming and the way Scott had to duck out of the way of what was presumably a collapsing buildingĀ halfway through the conversation is just so good.Ā Itās all of maybe 30 seconds in the ep but... Iām a Scott girl.Ā I latch onto these things.
Itās a little more dialled back for a while after that, but then thereās Runaway.Ā I love this episode, okay, and I keep seeing Scott getting a lot of flack over how he treats Brains in this ep and that bothers me.Ā Is Scott in the rightĀ with how he acted?Ā Maybe not, maybe there were other, better ways to handle the whole thing (I love Scott but I do know and accept that he can be an idiot and make mistakes... looks at Recharge oh boy thatās a fun one) but this is one of those eps where he does this thing I love where he tries to big brother someone older than him.Ā It doesnāt happen much, but he does it with Brains from time to time and this is one of them.Ā He knowsĀ Brains isnāt comfortable in Thunderbird One, and his response to that is to try and reassure him with a little bit of banter, a little bit of light-heartedness.Ā And if it was any of his brothers, or hell even the kids he rescues, it would probably have worked.Ā The fact that it doesnāt (and all the curveballs that rescue keeps throwing at them) does make Scott seem like a bit of a brat, maaaybe, but heās trying, okay?Ā Give the boy some slack he wants everything to be okay.
EOS.Ā Honestly, I am surprised that he didnāt jump in TB3 himselfĀ the moment they realisedĀ āJohnā was fake.Ā I actually canāt imagine how terrified he was during and after that episode, because heās Johnās big brother.Ā Looking after his little brothers - even the one living in space - is his job and itās a job he takes very seriously, so the fact that this AI managed to impersonate his little brother so well he never suspected a thing?Ā That shook him up, and shook him up bad.Ā There are many fics about Scott and EOS and how they probably didnāt get on at all for some time and they are fantastic because thatās something I wish weād seen in the show and never did.Ā I actually poked at it with a headcanon of mine myself because the idea of the one thing getting Scott and EOS to bond is a shared worry over John is one I love.Ā Once he finally got used to EOS, knowing that thereās someone there to keep an eye on John full time would have been suchĀ a relief for our constantly-worrying favourite big brother.
Am I going to keep going ep by ep?Ā Probably not, because that is a lotĀ to go through and this is already an entire essay, but I amĀ going to tackle straight into SlingshotĀ because worried big brothers?Ā Worried big brothers.Ā Lots of them.Ā Four, to be precise, but while weāve got the obviousĀ āAlanās missing and we donāt have any idea whatās happening and [insert genera panic here]ā thereās that little, blink and youāll miss it, bit where the brother Scott is fussing over is John.Ā Itās common fanon that John and hugs are, for the most part, a no thanks, but the first time we ever see Scott and John physically in the same place, thereās an arm slung around his shoulder and heās guiding him into the room - presumably all the way from the space elevator - because he canāt help Alan but he can help John.Ā One highly upset John who sent his baby brother off on that mission and now faces the very real fear that said baby brother isnāt coming back (and, yes, I suppose, Kayo as well.Ā I am not a Kayo fan in the slightest so donāt expect her to crop up too much - thereās a reason I skipped FireflashĀ in this even though heās being a big brother to her in there).Ā Itās the small things that I really appreciate.
Iāve been writing for about an hour straight now (I did say I never shut up about Scott) so while I could pick apart all the episodes Iād be here for several more hours and I do, regrettably, have other things to do (including writing more fic!).Ā Iāll start summarising.Ā And probably going out of order but hey.Ā Things as I think of them now.
Heavy Metal.Ā One of my favourite episodes for many reasons (no Kayo, all the bros, the banter, TB4Ā āyou do know Thunderbird Four is a Class C Submersible, right?Ā As in, she operates best Under Water?ā) but that Scott and Alan moment?Ā Where Scott trusts Alan implicitly because heās at a loss at what he can do and Alan has an answer and ooh boy this role reversal.Ā Part of being an older sibling is knowing when to let your younger siblings stand by themselves and here Scott does that so well.Ā Thereās hesitation and fear but he does itĀ and I might have watched that many timesĀ and had to stifle squeals every time.
I mentioned RechargeĀ earlier and thatās not really big brother Scott so much asĀ ābreaking apart at the seamsā Scott but itās a powerful episode where we actually see the stress heās under and that he is Not Coping (thank you Virgil for stepping into Big Brother role) so I canāt really not mention it at all.
Hop skip and a jump to season 2 because we have one of the biggest pieces of personal amusement for me in this season and I realised it when tallying upĀ āNear Deaths At the Hands Of The Mechanicā out of curiosity (and some background research for Grounded).Ā We know that Virgil, Gordon and even Alan ended up in trouble a few times, and Scott not trusting the Mechanic in season 3 definitelyĀ stems from the wholeĀ āyou worked with the Hood and almost killed my brothers several timesā thing, but after doing a count-up, the Tracy the Mechanic almost kills the most is actually Scott himself (itās not even close.Ā Itās two or three times more than the next brother - Gordon, iirc).Ā Does Scott have anyĀ regards for his own personal safety when he can focus on his brothers instead?Ā Of course not.
Brandon.Ā BrandonĀ āThe Bearā Berringer.Ā Who, by the way, I adore.Ā A mix of a mini Scott and Alan all bundled up into one X-Treme vlogger, he pushes all of Scottās buttons delightfully and gives some of my favourite banter (ālike two peas in a podāĀ āwell this pea would like out of this podā) and the whole time you can see Scott oh so slowly adopting this disaster child.Ā Unwillingly, but he just canāt help himself.Ā Brandon just radiatesĀ āout of control teenager in need of older siblingā vibes and, well, Scott is powerless.Ā I love it, he hates it, Brandon is totally adopted by the end of High Strung, Scott just refuses to admit it (Virgil notices.Ā Virgil delights in playing theĀ āannoying little brotherā card).Ā Scott and Brandonās relationship is one of my favourites purely because this is the one child Scott doesnātĀ want to big brother but he does it anyway (okay so thereās Fuse in season 3 - yes, Fuse - but I will get to Fuse in a bit because thatās complicated and also ties in to my absolute favourite thing about Scott - yes, even above the big brothering).
Jumping forwards again because itās been too long since I last saw S2 (DVDs at home why) and Iām tired.Ā And because I really want to talk about Firebreak, which Iām sure is what sparked this ask in the first place.Ā I love this episode.Ā (I love all of them but sshh.)Ā I love the Crablogger, I am delightedĀ that got a TAG revamp, and I love the introduction of the Rescue Scouts (hello ChaosĀ foreshadowing, that was sneaky).Ā I love Bee and her (mostly) cool, calm and collected attitude and I love Henry and his Small Child energy.Ā And this is also the most obviously blatant big brothering we get from Scott outside of his actual siblings in the entire series.Ā The fact that it is right before The Long ReachĀ and comes hot on the heels of (or even in the midst of, really) that whole breakdown heās been having ever since SignalsĀ just hits harder, because itās such a wonderful contrast with the whole Must Be Responsible and What Would Dad Do and all those other things thatās been hitting him for the entirety of TAG and really slamming home in S3.2.Ā Thereās no pressure on him here.Ā Just two small children, doing the exact things he did when he was their age and no doubt helped his own little brothers through.Ā I know the episode focuses on how Jeff taught Scott all those things, and is kinda paying that forward from Scott to Henry and Bee, but you canāt tell me John, Virgil, Gordon and Alan werenāt alsoĀ Rescue Scouts and that Scott didnāt help them with their badges, too (especially Alan, who if heās the age I think he is, is probably stillĀ a Rescue Scout!).Ā Scottās calm, heās having fun, and honestly this is what our overworked Commander needed.Ā The feels from this episode are strong.
Because I mentioned him earlier, I will just touch on the Fuse thing.Ā This is less big-brotheringĀ but Chain ReactionĀ hits me really hard, because it comes right on the heels of SOS, with Gordon still hospitalised because of Fuse.Ā And then thereās Scott, who by all rights should hateĀ Fuse for what he did, for hurting and coming soĀ close to killing one of his little brothers, turning around and saving him.Ā Maybe heās not big brotheringĀ Fuse but idk, I just love that.Ā And while weāre on the topic, Scott and Cameron?Ā This kid disguised as a GDF soldier is adorable and the fact that Scott lets him hide behind him when thatās really not something that should be encouraged in a soldier (as Marion snaps) makes me smile every time.Ā And the awkward hug.Ā And all Scottās positive reinforcement.Ā I love it.
The Long Reach.Ā Ā [pauses to scream].Ā So this finale is, for Scott, a lotĀ to do with stepping backĀ and being allowed to be justĀ the big brother again.Ā Itās very clever how Scottās very prominent in part 1 and then fades away in part 2, as Jeff comes back and takes over the whole head of the familyĀ thing, and really hits home how much Scott took on (do I have fics planned on them figuring out who is responsible for what and fumbling their way through this?Ā Hell yeah).Ā Thereās that scene with Alan on the planetoid that I think made everyone cry a little because Scottās there in reassuring big brother mode even though heās falling apart himselfĀ and then thereās one of the biggest gut-punches for me in the whole show.Ā Which I think is best described in the fic I wrote immediately after it aired because ouchĀ did the end of Part 1 hurtĀ me.Ā That moment where Scottās alone, when Alanās gone back and he doesnāt have to be strong anymore because no-one can see him... when the Big Brother Mask vanishes and weāre just left with the broken son... [screams some more].Ā Iām never gonna be over that scene.Ā Never.
And the hug.Ā That damnĀ hug that makes me cry because Scott please thatās your hug too.Ā The way Scottās clinging to TB4 to keep himself still despite being zero-g trained, the way he hangs back so his brothers can get their hug with Dad and the fact that Jeff and John have to beckon him in and let him know itās okay to have this.Ā The way that despite everything, despite finally getting his Dad back, he stillĀ gives that moment to his brothers and doesnāt even try to take anything for himself until heās silently told too...
I love Scott.Ā I love him so much.Ā His heart is so big and heāll big brother anyone who seems like they need it (irrespective of whether they actually do), and sometimes thatās what holds him together and sometimes thatās what breaks him and I just...Ā Scottās so much of a big brother he canāt stop even when itās hurting him, and he never wantsĀ to stop because his little brothers are his world and heāll always, alwaysĀ put them first.
Iām gonna finish this with a line from Grounded, because I wrote it and then it punched me in the gut because it sums up my feelings about how when it comes to his siblings heās tooĀ selfless, which is both one of his strongest character traits but also one of his fatal flaws.
āIt would help everyone if you looked out for yourself like you do your brothers, Scott.ā
Working in an area of farms so homes are quite far apart. The nearest neighbors, who have toddler aged kids, are in the middle of construction adding a second floor to their home. Early this morning (6am) I went outside with the dogs. Suddenly a woman in the distance is yelling "Get down from that ladder now! How many times do I have to tell you you are not allowed to climb the house?! No. No! Do not jump!"
"Hey, dad? Did I..." Scott hesitates because he's got a question that's been haunting him for eight years but he's not sure if he could deal with an answer from the man he asked every day in his thoughts, "Did I do a good job?"
Oh Scotty. Jeff thought, his eldest son looked so young approaching him. Standing up from his desk, the father of five turned towards his first born and placed a hand on his shoulder.
āScott Carpenter Tracy,ā he began, looking him directly in those dazzling blue eyes, āI am so proud of you. The work you have done is far greater than I had ever imagined possible for International Rescue. You, you, are responsible for some of the best rescues ever pulled off."
Taking a deep breath, Jeff closed the gap between him and his son, and pulled Scott into his arms, resting his chin in Scott's soft brown hair. "You have done a great job, my boy.ā Placing a delicate kiss upon his sons head, Jeff continued,Ā āNot just as Commander of International Rescue, but as being the head of this family. You have looked after your brothers, you have raised Alan to be who he is today.ā
āScotty,ā Jeff had tears in his eyes, ānever doubt yourself son, donāt ever doubt yourself. I am proud of you. And your mother would be so proud of you too.ā
Holding his son closer, Jeff thought back to when Scott was just a young boy, always trying to help others, always looking after his younger brothers. Wishing that he could take all his sons burdens away, and go back to when the boys were still young, Jeff just planted another kiss upon the brown locks, and held onto his precious first born. Trying to send Scott all his love and adoration, he just hoped that Scott knew how much Jeff was proud of him.
