I was on a bit of a mixels kick in August, and I've drawn all of my OCs, both current and upcoming, as Mixels. Today, I'll only be sharing with you the handful that I managed to finish.
You can enjoy the designs as is, but if you want to know my thought process behind these, then read on.
So, the first OC here is my most long-standing one, Aster, who I've, naturally, turned into an Orbiton due to all the space themeing that surrounds them. They're kinda based on the animals that were sent to space, hence the cat in a spacesuit look. Their name, Zvezda, is meant to tie into that, too. It's a reference to the Russian dogs that were sent to space, Belka and Strelka, being a similar sounding name. However, it's also the Russian word for star, tieing in with Aster's star themeing. The star theme is perpetuated with Zvezda's head being shaped like an upside down star. Additionally, his head and torso together look like an upside down rocket, though that wasn't very intentional. Like every Orbiton, he has jet boosters, but his are in his fingers.
Other than becoming superpowered creatures and having their names changed to fit with Mixels' naming conventions, these are largely still the same characters. Same personality, same pronouns, mainly the same relationships, they're just a tad more cartoony.
Zvezda is just as confident, energetic, passionate, and outgoing as Aster, and they need to be reigned in whenever they get carried away with an outlandish idea. Though, Zvezda acts more outwardly like a cat, purring and meowing often and all.
I couldn't separate the couple, so here's what Cal looks like as a Mixel, as well! With Cal sonetimes self-identifying as a werewolf, a spooky creature, I had to turn him into a member of the spookiest tribe there is: the Glowkies. Plus, the Glowkies are also known for their misical performances, so the tribe suits him in that way, too. His mixel name is Howell, because he howls at the moon, duh! I imagine he can use his tail as a whip. Not as much to say about him, to be honest. He's the same shy, anxious, and slightly awkward gentle giant.
I wasn't intending it at first, but the fact that Aster's and Cal's mixel versions come from the same environment and series is quite cute! They get to basically live right next to each other!
Next up is Finn! They're a sporty shark, a flexible sea creature, much like the Flexers, so I turned them into one! The part of their body I decided to make flexible are their arms since they're probably Finn's most prominent feature. The name I gave this version of them is Aflex, the name Alex, but with the word flex in the middle. Aflex is a flirty, outgoing, extra confident, and somewhat smug mixel. They love traveling around the Mixel world and always bring a camera with them to take pictures of the places they visit. They love meeting new mixels, and they love bragging about just how many mixels they've met in their travels!
The next and last OC for now that I turned into a mixel is Nox. Since he's a musician, I turned him into a Mixie. I thought that his larger body type could transfer really well into a chunky cassette player! His axolotl gills perfectly translated into antennas, too! This mixel's name is Quentone: Quentin + tone. Again, just like Nox, he's very chill and doesn't speak very often. He prefers expressing his emotions by playing different songs! He's a good mixel to come to when you're down, as he can always cheer a mixel up with a well-chosen song!
Mind you, I have proper original mixel character ideas that aren't just based on existing ones, but they will be coming later, as I don't have the time to finish them right now
