If i had a nickel for every time Ewan McGregor was in a movie that had a highly stylized musical number featuring a version of "Diamonds Are a Girl's Best Friend," I'd have two nickels. Which isn't a lot, but it's weird that it happened twice.

On the one hand: the visual of the lightning strike animating the creature is deservedly iconic. I love it! The drama is unparalleled! It beautifully emphasizes the harnessing of forces beyond one's control and evokes the simultaneous beauty and danger of what's being created.

On the other hand: it does absolutely undermine the idea that Frankenstein has pulled this off by his own hand alone when it takes what is literally, clasically known as an act of god to imbue the creature with the spark of life. I can't unsee it.

The year is 2040. Michael Bublé is doing a series of performances in Vegas. On December 1st, his set list switches to 90% Christmas music, just as planned.

His set starts with an empty stage and familiar backing vocals: ba-boom, ba-boom, ba-boom boom-boom ba-boom... Then. With no marketing, no press release, no social media teasers, the spotlight reveals Ryan Reynolds on the mic, and he launches into Santa Baby in a slutty, purring voice.
