I refused to believe this was my fate. I stood my ground. At first I was angry they were to take away a life out of the convenience of their unnatural hunger. But then I thought to myself, perhaps this was my chance, an opportunity, to speak my truth. Perhaps their hunger was a cry for help. Perhaps even in a pack they were lonely. So I gave them a line from my most recent work. ‘Fallow, the sorrow... fret not, a home you have. In glee, it returns.’ Instantly, to my surprise, the intelligent wolves tilted their heads suddenly aware of where their feet stood, confused as to why they were hunting me. Apologetic, were their eyes. Yet they still approached. Again, to my surprise, they sat beside me in unison forming a circle. They howled a beautiful tone calling all animals and fae alike in the forest to us. A dream came true. So many souls for my heart to heal. Utopia, would come again.
