Our eyes lock in deep consideration As we measure each other out, As we try to read suspended Facial expressions. Thoughtfully you begin Strumming your guitar And I watch your fingers Work the strings, Getting lost. But when you begin to sing, I raise my eyes to your face And realize you’re still locked On me with a challenging air. Your unwavering gaze makes Me wonder if the song choice Is intentional, If you’re trying To tell and ask me The things you can’t help but wonder But aren’t ready to voice. Because you’re still thinking of her, And I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t comparing you to him. Maybe, Just maybe, This is how we start. ~A.G. 3/24/19
