Reunited at last. Can't you feel it?? The energy??? The chemistry????
Ben: “WHY IS THE SCHOOL ON FIRE?!”
Mal: “I sneezed as a dragon.”
Carlos: “We had an accident in the chemistry lab.”
Jay: “I dropped my latest mix tape.”
Ben: “Evie, please tell me what happened.”
(Flashback to Jay and Mal arguing with Carlos that it was impossible to light a fire extinguisher on fire.)
Evie: “I don’t remember.”
Tidbit Tuesday
Thank you for tagging me @herrmannhalsteadproduction 💜
(And thank you @bangpop91 and @rdng1230 for tagging me in the other tag game yesterday. It’s a long, dumb story.. but I was going to play, lost a draft, gave up, yadda yadda.)
Here is a tidbit from one of my sicktember ficlets. I chose this one bc Kay mentioned bowling in her tidbit!
—
Eddie pretended to not be impressed. He didn’t even have a witty taunt. Tommy suspected he was just in a bad mood because he’d pulled a muscle during the first game, and he’d been forced to bowl left handed. They pulled the bumpers out for him and everything. Stopping short of requesting one of the dinosaur shape slides that toddlers used to launch their balls down the lane.
Val was doing only slightly better than Eddie. Both she and Eddie were fiercely competitive and terrible at bowling - in equal measure. They were holding their composure juuust well enough to still be considered good company. But Tommy was thinking it was a good thing this was their last game. Things were approaching the line between friendly teasing and poor sportsmanship.
“You sure you guys don’t spend your time here on the sly?” Val asked, coolly sipping her beer. “If I walk by those photos of league bowling nights that line the entryway, I’m not going to see your faces?”
Tommy laughed, and massaged his pec. He thought maybe he hadn’t chewed one of his nachos well enough. He kept feeling like he had a sharp angular chip sharply poking at his chest.

The front door creaks open with a soft whine, broad stretches of sunlight casting amber ribbons through the entryway as familiar Doc Martens and long legs carry Edie through it. Despite the summer heat - daytime temps over 100 seeping into evening - she's wearing a black hoodie, sleeves stretched over the tips of her fingers.
"Hey," Tommy says as he flips on the football game in the living room. "Good hang?"
"Don't say hang, Papa," she mutters in reply, slinging her backpack over her shoulder and hanging it on the staircase. "But yeah, it was fine."
"How's Evie?" Buck shouts from the kitchen about her best friend and his namesake, Eddie and Val's daughter. The girls grabbed coffee after school to work on a project, but really they aren't far apart, attached at the hip before they could even babble.
He's wrist deep in a bowl of ground beef, mixing ingredients for meatballs. The air is humid and warm as the oven preheats, homemade garlic bread already rising on the counter top, filling the room with oregano and pepper. "She do okay on that, uh, test?"
Edie's practically crawling to the kitchen, shoes finally removed and tossed aside, slinking with her eyes cast down to her phone. Not one to pay attention to him on a good day, it seems like something's got her mood down and Buck's curiosity piques. Heart clenching knowing she's hurting, he hopes it's something he can fix.
"Hmm?" Edie hums, planting herself on a chair at the table, tucking one leg beneath her as the other swings to the floor. "Uh, yeah she got an A."
"Nice," Buck smiles, continuing to assemble dinner as he glances back at her. It's tough but he bites his tongue, holds back words to give her space if she needs it, even if it makes him want to scream.
"It's Evie," Edie says with a smirk and a soft chuckle, and yeah, she's not wrong. The kid's got a practically perfect GPA and sits in four Advanced Placement classes last Buck checked.
Edie keeps fiddling with her hoodie, tightening her grip on the edge of her sleeve and mindlessly brushing the skin across her forearm. Buck can't tell if it's out of anxiety or pain, but he's on high alert regardless, the urge to rescue and protect her becoming unsettling, fraying his nerves as he pours oil into a skillet.
The whisper of flame that grows after the click of gas is the only sound save for Tommy's frustrated coaching from the living room couch and the background roar of the football stadium on screen.
"What about you?" Buck says with as much nonchalance as he can muster. "Good day?"
"Fine," Edie says with a huff. Before Buck can ask her another question, she scoots her chair out from the table and heads toward the stairs. "Homework. Save dinner for me?"
