I jest! Okay. So, as you can probably gather from my reblogs, I am a huge fan of Jackie Chan’s work. I’ve seen more of his filmography than I will ever admit to under threat of death, and I’ve been revamping an old informal essay I wrote about the emotional appeal and catharsis of his movies. The kind of stuff that makes us root for him, how it’s informed by his experiences. I don’t think it’s anything that hasn’t been articulated by someone else, but I figured I’d give it a spin with some pointed examples from the summer where I did a massive deep dive.
I’m basically just proofreading said essay to sound less embarrassing than I was when i originally drafted it. It’s definitely going up on this blog now that I’ve made this place my movie essay hub.
