sometimes I think of the culture shock a Southern mage Rook (specifically a Circle mage) would experience next to Lucanis.
for your entire life, you are instilled the fear of becoming an abomination. some mages choose to become Tranquil rather than face the Harrowing because demon possession is seen as a one-way trip with death as its final destination.
you may think that you've learnt to weed out the Chantry propaganda from your personal views on magic, but there are some teachings so ingrained into you that you've come to see them as given. over the course of your life, you've likely heard of mages turning into abominations and accepted that, outside intricate rituals and insane luck, the only possible solution to that problem is killing the mage. you may have even thought of that as justified.
and then you meet a guy who has a demon in him, and he is Mostly Doing Fine. it's not exactly a peaceful coexistence all the time, but it's a life. that other abominations you've heard of were denied. which you thought was the right thing.
wouldn't it mess you up a little to think of all the other people for whom you thought death was the only option.
