The campfire burned bright and hot against the night wind's harsh chill, and Maryah had all but finished her meal. Food hunt was... different with Hale around, but at least he ensured no ambush would reach her in sleep, neither from raiders nor from wildlife, and that was a priceless boon.
She watched the flames dance, and finally asked. “Do you have a tribe?”

It had been a quiet day, and she’d just finished her performance in a village belonging to the Cavernous Clan. She swam up north towards the Arctic Clan towards her next performance, happy with what she had earned for the day. As she floated lazily along on her back and hummed to herself quietly, she heard quiet splashing in the water. She turned over to right herself, only to see the other downstream splashing in the stream. At the sight of the troll, fear gripped her and she yelped, splashing backwards in a fruitless effort to put distance between them.
Well, shit. She made a scene. She didn’t stick around to find out if he had noticed her, she immediately bolted from the stream, running to the forest in hopes that she lost him behind her.
