This is for one of my favorite series in the LU fandom. It’s a post LU where Legend is feeling lost and has somehow gotten younger again. The goddesses send him through time to see his brothers in the past creating a timeline split. He later does talk to his original brothers, and technically his current group kinda figures things out….except not really cause they think Legend is his predecessor and died. They also don’t know about the other timeline lol
I did art for this series ages ago, but it has since had an update and a new design for Legend who is now going by Legato so of course I had to do a character sheet and one of the fight scenes for said new installment. I don’t think it’s quite as good as the last art piece I did for this series but dangit I tried ok.
Please read part one of the series to understand what the frick is going on but here’s the link to the installment this particular piece is from:

"Not too tight, Merlin. You don't want to kill me before I've even started."
Always nice to start with Merlin dressing Arthur <3 And they had the first proper smiles in this episode!
The fact that it's Arthur who initiated the conversation was so important because Merlin had been trying to get him to talk all episode, and finally it was Arthur who actively approached him.
"If this day should prove to be my last, give this to Guinevere."
Merlin just barely held it together… His face was completely closed off. Arthur giving him the ring probably forced him to face the fact that Arthur may well be dead this day.
"Do you really think it's worth the risk? You're king now. Camelot needs you, alive."
Sounded more like "I need you alive." 🥲 Merlin's last attempt to dissuade Arthur. Love the contrast of his trembling voice and fake smile.
"For the first time since I became king. I know in my heart that I have made the right decision."
Love love love that boyish smile Arthur had here!!! He really looked like the weight on his shoulder was lifted for the first time in this episode. So precious.
Merlin's reaction was gorgeous too... There was a tiny hint of a smile that he couldn't help despite all his worry. There was awe, and a bit of sadness too. He didn't want Arthur to risk his life like that, but if Arthur wasn't like that, he wouldn't be drawn in so much.
"Well, whatever happens out there..."
Colin's profile was gorgeous. Merlin almost teared up… baby… couldn't even finish the sentence.
"You're not about to start crying on me, are you?"
"No! Just... good luck."
Love Arthur's smile! So fond and soft 🥹 It did make Merlin smile, albeit half forced, with tears still rolling in his eyes. Arthur always wanted to make Merlin smile.
“Thank you, old friend.”
Ahhhhhhhh It hit so hard after half an episode of Arthur telling Merlin he cannot afford the luxury of having friends!
Was it the first time Arthur out right called Merlin friend? It might be. I like that because Arthur regained his confidence, the whole talk was led by him, instead of Merlin, unlike many similar instances. Merlin was too in distress to make cryptic comments or lighten the mood. He could only respond to what Arthur threw at him.
Then Arthur surprised Merlin by giving him a warrior handshake!! Arthur was doing everything to validate Merlin's equal place beside him. The banter, entrusting the ring, 'friend' calling, the handshake... He didn't do things by half.
"Is all in readiness?"
"Merlin?"
"Ready."
It’s annoying that Agravaine intruded the scene, but it did lead to the best part!!! Arthur checking in with Merlin at Agravaine’s inquiry!
First, while I'm not sure if Arthur did it deliberately, it put Merlin above Agravaine in terms of the ranking of Arthur’s confident. He didn't even spare Agravaine a glance.
Second, it could be interpreted as Arthur letting Merlin decide whether Arthur was ready, letting Merlin have a say in his kingly business, countering what he said to Merlin at the beginning of the episode (he can’t have friends in the court matters).
Finally, it could also be interpreted as Arthur asking Merlin whether Merlin was ready (to let Arthur go). It’s so sweet and they were so equal. Even the camera treatment was symmetrical.
And then, of course, Merlin saw Arthur out with overwhelming pride on his face <3
