I think having no knowledge of the original text or of the musical made the movie better for me because I have nothing to compare it to and it was a fun experience because I expected a Christopher Nolan movie.
I think my opinion is also swayed by the fact that I'm an aspiring director. The movie had its flaws, I knew this even when I first watched it, but I think seeing it from a lense of wanting to make that form of art made it more endearing. The acting, the visuals, the lack of cgi, and the effort made The Odyssey a masterpiece for me.
I understand obviously the book is better it's like 3000 years old. Of course, it's better, and I understand Epic is more liked because it was more focused on details missed by Nolan by I think seeing it put into this form of art so precisely makes it hard for me to criticise. I do wish they added The Gods. I do wish Nolan could write anything that isn't a fighting scene. I do think the movie still stands as a great piece of art, and from a film making standpoint, I think it's inspiring.

Anyone who tells you that Nolan’s Odyssey is good in any way, including in the “good as a movie, bad as an adaptation” kind of way, is someone you need to stop taking media recommendations from. Perioddddd.
