episode 166: Festival On the Night Before Gold-Hunting! Feelings for Vearth!
i really like the light effect they put on ohm's sword, almost like it's a light whip or something.
this is so damn cool! laki's flip while pinned, the frantic shot, but ohm fuckin bats it away??? insane.
luffy being in charge of watching a pot boil is probably an accurate task for him.
this is funny. i wonder how good a cook zoro would be.
great joke. usopp having a moment of clarity and just bouncing makes it even funnier. but at least zoro carried back his shoes for him. also, the way that usopp's VA says "zoroooh" in this scene is so adorable.
nami with glasses, tinted lenses especially, is cute!
this is super cool. them not having the whole map makes this true reveal pop.

the lines they drew here to demonstrate her emotion, the intense worry lines, seem much more detailed and numerous than most. it really shows a really intense burst of emotion here from laki, poor lady.
the fire being an animal magnet was an unexpected gag.
angry chopper is so funny. love that they made his face extra dramatic.
i am 100000% down for more chopper translating for random animal adventures.
can't say i understand or expected the random animal bonfire party, but it's kooky and weird and i like it.
thank GOD GOD is alright!
chopper looks like he's having the best worst time ever after being tossed into the air here.
i do like that robin and zoro, the more serious ones of the group, are sitting out and now get what i'm sure will be a depressing history lesson.
i gasped. ugh i love that they all care for poor little aisa. the shandians really are growing on me, and thankfully there is more to them than meets the eye.
i've hit the last episode that i can recall watching in the mid/late 2000s, and my fledgling theory is really taking form. okay, bear with me. i have a theory that kazuha was only created after gosho toyed with but fairly quickly discarded the idea of a love triangle with shinichi, heiji and ran. i got the idea from this person who made a post that i love, showing shinichi at least fearing ran falling for heiji at first. in order to seal off that route (and add another dimension to the way heiji and shinichi are two sides of the same coin, gosho instead introduces kazuha as heiji's childhood friend love interest. but it's so one-sided!
kazuha's introduction has her embarrassing herself by assuming that ran is the kudo that heiji keeps talking about, and metaphorically peeing all over his leg while glaring at ran. it's very obvious that's she' jealous, but heiji takes no notice. but hey, maybe he's just not love savy. but then the four of them meet up again, kazuha is still carrying an obvious torch for heiji, and then they have heiji compare the two of them to brothers and sisters when matching clothing in japan is very couple coded. that's either him being so thick as to be unbelievable as the savvy detective that he is, or him lowkey indicating that he's not interested. he's also very quick to anger with her in a way that does read like sibling fighting. and then the above exchange happens.
kazuha is very obviously flustered and heiji does not give a fuuuuuck. even with all manner of writing trope goggles on, i cannot read this as him being romantically interested but not knowing how to process it or whatever. this is a guy who is aware that his female friend has a crush on him and he finds it to be mildly troublesome.
Is this the most homoerotic episode so far?
So many gay thoughts/fantasies evoked 🔥
I think my favorite was "the dance" and then Gintoki wrapping his legs around Hijikata while riding the scooter 😏
They're really close friends! :P
Thank you Sougo💘
