i really like the small moment of apprehension before welcoming them. he still feels the pain but wants to trust them, i like that. iceberg is cool. ha.

i think this only hits as hard as it does now is because we as an audience more or less let the merry go on, and now to have her come back and just fall right before the finish line is heartbreaking. and for the characters even more so, since the moment they've dreaded has finally come.

the fact that iceberg not only hears merry but singlehandedly restores her for her final mission is poetic justice i think. since him and his people are more or less responsible for the "death" of the going merry, him being the one to personally bring her back one last time, even though his own life is in danger, is really touching. like even though he knows the end result, he still follows his heart. there is a nobleness to that.

really love the watercolor colors here. very soothing and calming.

maybe it's just a specific animator's style, but this shot made me realize just like how much the art style has changed into something more fluid, leaner and gangly. like less detail in the faces and more emphasis on form, if that makes sense. though this could also just be a random shot.

wow. what a moment. spandam is finally fucking dead. and nothing of value was lost. but what i love most about this scene is that robin says nothing. she doesn't cry or scream or attack him in rage. she just... kills him. from a safe distance. doesn't torture him. doesn't drag it out in revenge. just a crack and a sigh. what an amazing moment. her actions speak louder than words.

this part is my favorite, because i like the small detail, intentional or otherwise, that usopp seems to have shifted the power from his totally real 8000 men to himself instead.
