Facing Changes
In the first few days of life, embryonic cells ‘switch on’ or express different patterns of genes – helping them develop into a variety of tissues. Yet in these zebrafish, researchers find another subtle control on development. They compare genes expressed in neural crest cells (highlighted in red) at different stages as the zebrafish’s head develops. Of course they find big differences, but not just in the gene patterns, also in the chromatin – the protective material that supports the DNA. The chromatin shifts to expose DNA regions called enhancers – these act as landing strips for proteins that help switch on important genes nearby. The team find different enhancers working at different times, with more revealed as development progresses. This may help to explain how such diverse tissues – including bone and muscle – develop from a common pool of neural crest cells, and might one day guide treatments to aid similar processes in humans.

Words of Encouragement
ありがとう!- “Thanks!” A casual way of thanking someone.
すごい!- “Awesome / cool / amazing!” Pretty interchangeable with English phrases like “awesome, wow, or cool”.
すばらしい- “Wonderful / excellent / great!”
すてき- “Lovely!”
がんばって!- “Do your best!” Also often translated as “good luck”, but that’s not what it means. がんばって is a request for someone to give their best effort.
よくやったね!- “You did it! Well don’t!” Used for people below you, like lower grade level or children?
やった!- “Horray! You did it!”
じょうず!- “You are good at it!” Literally, “skilled”.
かんべき!- Perfect, complete, flawless!
おつかれさまでした!- “Thanks for your hard work!” Term commonly used in the workplace, and literally means something like “You are tired”. It’s a way to acknowledge that someone is tired from working hard, and expresses your appreciation for it. Since it’s in the past tense (でした) only use it for a job that’s finished.
Enhancers
まじ- Seriously
まじめ- Where まじ comes from, “serious”
So, for example: まじかわいい!”seriously cute!”
めちゃ- Crazy
ちょう- Go over, super
すぎる- Too (goes at the end)
So, for example: かわいいすぎる!Too cute!
Various
どちら- Longer version of どっち
どっち- Which (one)? Implies one out of 2 options, which direction, which person
どれ- Which (one)? Implies one out of 3 or more options
ええ- Yes (casual like “yeah” or “yup”)
Since I’m still learning, if anyone notices any of these are wrong please let me know! And, if anyone has any to add, please let me know that as well! ありがとうございます!
“What did they do to you?”
“Who were you?”
On Aquamarine’s design and their choice of size dynamics to go with the common trope of small in-charge and their large backup. I understand that in order to have her have this size and still remain in-frame they gave her flight ability to keep her in shot. But wings!! Why wings?? It is what made Lapis special. It was a creative way of her to store water in her gem and then use her water-bending to make it wings. You know what they shoulda done? ENHANCERS. Like Peridot. A small little aircraft UFO thingy for Aquamarine to sit in. It would look like a tiny desk as well, which fits that tie office stuff they’re going for. And she would be all over the place. Move around in these straight lines, to be annoying, to display emotion for all I care. Maybe she has an inability to walk without it etc.
Now I know it would be Peridot 2.0 but I like to see more enhancers than I wanna see something like winx. That is not practical at all. You gotta flap em and all that jazz. They are so in ya face, Lapis even puts em away. Unless I think in too classic Science Fiction and these wings are ACTUALLY the advanced tech Lapis talked about in “The Message” and she was distressed over it lolmao

Extended local anesthesia enabled by flavonoid permeation enhancers - Research
Site 1 sodium channel blockers (S1SCBs), such as tetrodotoxin (TTX) and neosaxitoxin, are ultrapotent local anesthetics with low tissue toxicity. Their duration of action is relatively brief, but increasing the dose can lead to systemic toxicity. Here, we report that selected flavonoids-puerarin (PUE), naringenin, and kaempferol-prolong nerve block from S1SCBs 4- to 25-fold. Using both tympanic…
