Emakundek 2016an abian jarri duen genero ezberdintasunaren aurkako kanpaina. Berdintasun eza ez da berez sortzen, egin egiten dugu.
La campaña contra la desigualdad de genero que Emakunde ha puesto en marcha en 2016. La desigualdad no nace, se hace.
Emakunde is a basque organization that designs, coordinates, advises and evaluates policies regarding gender equality. This is their latest campaign, in which they want to make society aware of gender inequality, which isn’t born, but made. The video shows the different things we say to our children depending on their gender.
To a girl: Who’s my pretty girl?
To a boy: Hey, champ. What’s up?
To a girl: Don’t be bossy!
To a boy: You’re a born leader, boy!
To a girl: Who’s gonna take care of me when I’m old?
To a boy: You’re gonna go far, kid.
To a girl: You are getting fat.
To a boy: Don’t cry like a girl!
To a girl: And what do you want, dressing like that?
To a boy: Another girl? You’re awesome, mate!
To a girl: Let me see your cellphone.
To a boy: You let your girl meet with her guy friends!?
The motto of the campaign is inequality isn’t born, it’s made. Please, please, take this into consideration when interacting with kids. I know sometimes we just don’t realize how much of an impact our words can have on the younger population, but they do shape them. Please, take care of how you talk to both boys and girls. If we want gender equality in our communities, we need to start with the kids and not talk to them differently just because of their gender.
