This is my second post about this song that directly refers to the Binary Brothers so hereās my defense:
So part of the lyrics goes like this, right? Listen to it first, probably get a tab of the lyrics open and ready:
We all have a weakness
But some of ours are easy to identify
Look me in the eye
And ask for forgiveness
We'll make a pact to never speak that word again
Yes, you are my friend
We all have something that digs at us
At least we dig each other
If I turn into another
Dig me up from under what is covering
The better part of me
Sing this song
Remind me that we'll always have each other
When everything else is gone
Now these lyrics have been plaguing me ever since Iāve listened to it, because when Brandon Boyd sings that part, heās directly asking for forgiveness from someone heās possibly wronged. Idk thatās what Genius told me but I agree.
Now when I heard these lyrics, Hawk almost immediately shot up from my mind.
The scenario goes like this: He dreamt of singing this to Demetri, on god, but he couldnāt because: a) he canāt sing for shit, and b) isnāt it always a better plan to make someone feel your utter remorse and intense emotion through a cryptic song that tells so much of what you canāt say?
So yadda yadda, they were hanging out, some parts still elicit dead silence because... either boy still thinks things are obviously not okay.
Hawk turns to his phone and pairs his bluetooth speakers, unbeknownst to the other guy. He sets up the track.
Demetri, startled, listens to this. Weird flex, but okay, he thinks. It goes smoothly from the intro, everythingās fine and dandy UNTIL... the first 4 strings of lyrics are sung, and his heart drops. He looks at Eli, who had his eyes glued to his phone for the better part of the song.
This is the part where he starts tearing up, and eventually sobbing uncontrollably:
So when sickness turns my ego up
I know you'll act as a clever medicine
And then the chorus sets back in
Clever medicineā was that supposed to be him? Imagine the relief of emotionally associating this song, right then and there, with your best friend just when you thought youāve created a hole beyond repair.
Hawk watches all of this unfold and, at the same time, averts every time a line directly references his emotions. What heās waiting for, he canāt be so certain either. But you know, his thoughts are cut off when Demetri pulls him in for a hug, almost too tightly, never wanting to let go. And he shouldnāt.
The redhead just lets him sob into the crook of his neck, even with the inconvenience of their posture. All Hawk could hear after the song was done was Demetriās weeping and sniffles.
I had to stop writing my damn fic for this because I obviously couldnāt take it when this song came up on shuffle again THANK YOU GOOD NIGHT
