While Demetri was sad and depressed that all his friends are caught up in karate and that Eli was not Eli and was Hawk now, he was suddenly slammed into finding a cool car and getting in the middle of a 1v1 Decepticon vs Autobot fight so they got no choice but to take him in now So basically who needs friends and more karate drama when you got huge giant emotionally constipated alien robots constantly at each other's necks?
