i appreciate azune calling the candescent creed a cult because i do think some people misinterpret the scale of it as a religion due to wick's status as a player character and his earnestness. azune's impression is likely more in line with what the average aramƔn citizen thinks of the whole thing. it's a niche little cult (that's spreading largely through shady recruitment tactics and economic leverage.)
the line that sticks out to me is in episode one where brennan says to travis, "and house halovar has started going by candescent creed now." as in, this shift of the creed being the public arm of the halovars happened since the last time teor visited the city, which was probably around the rebellion. the religion has existed somewhere between 30 and 70 years and been where the halovars put their branding within the last 15. that's not a long time. because it's a cult.
