#dreadfully sorry

you don’t know how relieved i am! i was always afraid ever since Gar and Carol got together that they would get in a big fight and break up and have all THAT angst once Gar found out she was still a Point member.  sure, i still figured they’d be endgame, but i wasn’t lookin forward to an entire arc of the forgive the secret trope, and yet it didn’t feel rushed fixing it in one episode since 2 months went by in show.  

Gar’s assumption that Carol arriving at the plaza to get a job was just the universe smiling down at him explains a few things too.  i always wondered why he didn’t realize Carol had forgiven him when she took the time to move in right next door and let her son work at his store. he thought she was just so chill and uncaring about him she just didn’t pay attention, that it was pure coincidence he got to see her everyday.  it still breaks my heartstrings everytime i remember back in season 1 when we thought he just blushed at her because she was pretty, not because he had been carrying the guilt of possible manslaughter of her original love.

my only regret is not getting to see the 2 fight each other, that is one angsty trope i have a huge soft spot for. who knows, maybe i’ll get lucky and one of them will be mind controlled for a scene and we’ll finally get to find out what level Carol is when Dendy starts scanning the situation to assess how fricked over Gar is.

HOWEVER

while i’m here gushing about this ship that i love, i would like to mention i do not think this will be the last drama this romance will have.  there is still the subject of Lazerblast and who Carol loves most.  the show has been heavily hinting at Lazerblast not being dead, it definitely wants us to know he was likely teleported and messed up, but still very much alive.  so when he is eventually healed, (or just, found, if the shadowy figure routine was just his complex way of helping),  Carol is going to have a tough choice to make. 

 one of my biggest problems of shipping Gar and Carol at first was that Carol didn’t love him back in his El Bow days, and i was worried she didn’t really love him now.  my worry was that she only dated him because her true love wasn’t there so she’d settle for second choice, or to get closer and learn secrets about the glorb tree.  but the more i thought about the ship, the more i realized the answer was pretty simple: people change. not only did Gar get more confident and dependable, Carol changed.  my stubborn thought that “if she didn’t love him then, why does she love him now?” was overrun by the fact that everyone’s allowed to not only mature, but simply become different, to have different taste over time.  of course adventurous, wild, Silverspark wanted a confident, strong guy, El Bow just wasn’t her speed, she still loved him, but as a friend.  now all she wants is someone kind and loyal who she has things in common with. i have a feeling her loss has made her a lot more patient, and a lot more understanding of Gar’s nerves as she got older and went through a lot of emotional turmoil of her own.

I’m still not quite sure what to do with Percival, himself. I’ve had to rethink a few things about him and the viability of him as a trader in Gilneas (considering the entire walled-up city scenario.) Perhaps a little revamp is in order. I will attempt to do so without sabotaging who the character is - or perhaps a little change -is- needed to his character. I know at the very least that he shall be a gentleman of finery and business, and that he shall not stand for ruffians ruining his spot of tea. And that I should attempt to keep his diary - and this blog - up to date after this silence.
