And then, all of a sudden, the sun came out…
For while Algy had been moodily dozing and dreaming, the lively east wind, which was naturally much more industrious than a lazy fluffy bird, had been busy blowing the dreich grey clouds across the sky, far away out to sea, and as soon as the final cloud had been swept out of the way, the world was so immediately full of colour and light that it was impossible to believe that it had ever looked any different.
Algy woke up with a start and gazed in awe at the transformation: the sky that had been a gloomy grey was now a beautiful February blue, and the tangle of winter branches around him, both living and dead, were now glowing with subtle reds and yellows instead of appearing dismally greyish-brown.
Leaning back against a now-vertical branch of the fallen fir tree, he remarked happily to a passing blackbird "Well! One just never knows, does one?!"
