Not trying to be rude or anything, just want to gush about Great Pyrenees dogs, but they're actually not herding dogs! They're livestock guardian dogs, which are a separate category onto themselves! Livestock guardian dogs are meant to live among herd livestock and protect them from outside threats, but they don't really have the herding instinct bred in like a border collie that nips at your heels, it's more of a "I'll follow you around and use my deep bark and intimidating appearance to scare away any threats to you and if that doesn't work, I will defend you with my life" instinct. Border collies and other herding breeds are all about moving their herd about as directed by their owners, livestock guardian dogs are all about taking independent defensive action.
Oh wait really? That's so cool! I haven't met any Great Pyrenees currently on a farm (only one who used to be on a farm) so I don't have any irl experience. Thanks for telling me! I thought the terms were interchangable
