EDEN MERCIER: THE WORLD'S TOP FIGURE SKATER
Born to Angelique Mercier and Claude Fontaine in Marseille, France, Eden is the oldest of three children. They have two younger sisters of whom they are very protective of.
Their parents divorced when they were around 10 years old. Eden's father basically abandoned his family for another woman and none of them ever heard from him again. As a result, Eden had to watch their mother struggle raising 3 children on her own. As a result, Eden vowed to do something to help her as they got older.
Eden was always talented at ice skating and even tried hockey at one point, but realized that their passion was with figure skating. Their mother, despite not having a lot of money, helped nurture this natural talent and took them to weekly lessons.
They won their first competition at 12 years old. Then again. And again. And again. Eden was rapidly surpassing their peers and caught the eye of France's top coach, who took them under her wing at the age of 14. They then debuted in the Olympics when they were only 16 years old and has gone to every winter Olympics since.
Eden, who was born male, does compete in the male skate. They publicly came out as nonbinary at 19, which they hope inspired many young athletes to know that they can identify how they wish and still compete.
Eden does hope that one day they can see competitions allow a mixed gender category in skating so people like them can compete how they want and not be confined to their sex at birth. This is something they heavily advocate for.
Eden now supports their family financially, with winnings from competitions and brand deals galore, they're able to live comfortably.
Eden does have issues committing to relationships due to their intense love of skating. That is their #1 priority in life. They can come off as cold and distant, really only interested in people for sex or easy friendships. Romantic relationships are extremely difficult for them.
They can also come across as very judgey and snobbish. Eden is a bit high maintenance overall.
They are now in their mid-twenties and people are questioning if they're going to retire soon. Incorrect. They're at the prime of their career. They'll retire when they drop dead.
Their English isn't perfect. They don't care. If you can't understand them, that's on you.
