hi
Hate DBQ's so fucking much
Ahaha I forgot how to write DBQS and the DBQ formatÂ
I Want to Talk About Emilie du Chatelet
Most famous for being Voltaire's girlfriend, this woman also studied with Voltaire and translated Newton's Principia Mathmaticia (published in 1759).
For you DBQers, if ever you have to write about women in the sciences from the 17th and 18th centuries, I hope to god that one of the documents is her letter to another French philosopher basically telling him to fuck off for "critiquing" her work.
Other works by Chatelet include:
Institutions de Physique (“Lessons in Physics”)- 1740
Réponse de Madame la Marquise du Chastelet, a la lettre que M. de Mairan- 1741 (another nice "fuck off" to another guy who tried to make her look dumb. He backed off)
Institutions de physique (1st edition, 1740; 2nd edition, 1742)
Fun Fact: She was married, had several affairs (Voltaire was just one philosopher she had fun with[4 partners total, including husband]), and still did not give a fuck.
So yeah. Émilie du Châtelet everyone.
