Clavelina ossipandae, the skeleton panda sea tunicate is a species of colonial ascidian, also known as sea tunicates, a group of sessile, marine filter-feeding invertebrates. Just some funky little guys!
First discovered near Kume Island in Japan by local divers, pictures of the animal attracted media attention in 2017. But they weren't given their formal taxonomic description until 2024

Coastal Wrack refers to a buildup of dead, washed up seaweed and other debris on beaches. To a visitor, it may be a rotting mess, but this complex microenvironment actually hosts a beautiful array of invertebrates and shoreline creatures, and it's common to see shorebirds and others picking at it to munch on isopods, sessile marine organisms latched to kelp, and more.
The California Coast gets a lot of coastal wrack due to the dense kelp forests offshore.
