i just. so strongly believe that if someone isn't vibing with everyone else in a ttrpg group, or if they're not vibing with you the gm, the best and most correct thing to do is to tell them, "hey i don't think this is the game for you. no hard feelings!" you don't have to play ttrpgs with everyone on the planet. you can still be friends outside a ttrpg context. like. liberate yourself, dude!
dnd potion ideas
Your party walks into an alchemist's shop or what have you, and there's a bargain bin full of unlabeled bottles. A dm has many many options for what these could be, but for some trollish ideas, consider the following.
abracadadderall: drink this potion and you become able to maintain two concentration spells at once, but you develop insomnia and can only take short rests for up to 1d4 days.
potion of become potion: what it says on the tin. you become potion. the next person who drinks the potion frees you, but then becomes the potion themself.
suspension of disbelief: you believe everything you are told for up to 1d4 days
water walker's potion: manifests water under your every step, making every patch of ground you walk on unpleasantly wet. does not let you walk on water.
essence of cropdust: you let one rip uncontrollably once per turn for 2d12 turns. negates stealth and gives enemies advantage on attack rolls.
potion of unlocking: when drank, it gives you a key. you have no idea what it unlocks and you'll spend the rest of your campaign searching. the dm can decide if it actually unlocks anything at all.
elixir of rixile: forces you to speak backwards for 1d4 days
This is how I show my players I care 🥹 even when we can’t be together.
Bad dnd opener idea: your party meets at the gallows of the city, curiously watching as someone waits for their execution. A long list of crimes is read out, including some specific instances that are infamous across the lands.
One by one the party grows uncomfortable as they each realize an innocent man is being accused of their crimes.
Will they let the man die and live with the guilt? Will they recognize the reactions of each other and know who is truly guilty? Will they confront one only another after the man is already dead? Will they try and plead his innocence? Or will they fight and try to save him?
So many horrible little choices!

i am jealous of when dnd parties all sleep in the same bed or room or cave or home. when they are all best friends and just sleeping and watching over each other and staying warm together and ! there is such intimacy in shared sleep and they get to do that while they adventure. they spend their days in so much danger but their nights in the comfort of one another, and through this they share their love !! i am so jealous
Doing DnD prep and making more hilarious hand drawn tokens and
Rust monster #1 vs Rust monster #12
[ID: My hand holding up two handmade DnD combat tokens. They are cardboard squares with rough drawings of DnD rust monsters on them. The one on the left is more detailed with a bug like face and large plate scales, while the one on the right is smaller and very simple and cute, and has a small smiley face instead of a bug like face. End ID.]
Genuinely using flow charts for dnd combat has made it so much easier for me. aabria iyengar I salute you.
because seriously. Not only does it help you to devise useful tactical scenarios ahead of time it also lets you think 'what would a character do in combat' both as a DM and a player (esp as someone who really prefers RP)
Because how a swashbuckler pirate fights is gonna be way different from say a swashbuckler who's a duellist and a bit of a braggart. Pirate for example might hide and chuck some knives or get in, stab, get out, but an arrogant duellist will want to remain in combat and stay on the offensive because they want glory.
Both are really interesting as PCs for RP reasons, but as bad guys they're also fun - different methods are required to fight them. This got away from me bc I went into a DM spiral of 'ooh fun swashbuckler bad guys'
but my point is thank you aabria
