#1: uldren came back so cayde should be able to come back too!

uldren didn’t come back. crow was rezzed, and he has a story that’s highly relevant and significant to other key players and events in game. 

#2: saint came back so cayde could come back the same way!

saint returns was facilitated by the sundial — a device which sole purpose was to bring saint back. osiris himself wasn’t even able to bring saint back until centuries later with the help of many guardians and the young wolf. 

#3: cayde’s backstory is highly relevant to the darkness and vex time gates!

cayde is barely relevant to the darkness and vex time gates. the only significant way he interacted with the darkness is during the collapse where he. y’know. reset and died. it’s a passing mention that’s never talked about again. that lore also isn’t only about cayde; it provides insight about the collapse — what happened during it and what it did to humanity.

#4: cayde’s journals have lots of information that suggest he’s coming back!

the purpose of cayde’s journals and notes was to catalogue his own memories and provide a guide for his future selves in the event of a reset. the only key player they’re significantly tied to is the player guardian since they’ve. y’know. read his journals.

#5: the grimoire book features cayde and his human form!

the grimoire book was about exos. cayde’s an exo. shiro was also in the grimoire book. cayde’s human form being in there doesn’t at all suggest that he’s coming back.

#6: cayde gave petra a message about enceladus in his ‘will’! he said we haven’t seen the last of him!

enceladus may be another destination we’ll get in the distant future, a retcon or a location where clovis bray was workign on exos. i’m guessing it’s either the second or third option, considering that enceladus wasn’t mentioned in clovis bray’s logbooks or by elsie. also, the message that cayde states we haven’t seen the last of him is directed at bray exoscientists. it’s possible that he had a contingency plan that would occur after his death; it doesn’t mean he’s coming back. people seem to gloss over his ‘will’ to the young wolf where he states ‘every story has an end. this one’s mine’. 

#7: ghost said there’s copies of cayde’s memory on europa!

bringing cayde back by using the copies of his memories on europa is unethical. not to mention he would be an entirely different person. we’ve already covered why this isn’t a good idea in banshee’s story. read the lore. have some respect for the character you claim to love.

I'm not saying they shouldn't be called out over actual issues like that.

I'm talking about the sheer number of posts I've come across of people complaining about Cayde stans who weren't guilty of those things is insane. It hurts exactly no one for them to lament over wanting him back on their own blogs.

Actual issues should be addressed. If those people are that shitty, yes! Call them out! But getting mad at non-offending people for wanting a character back? Not an actual issue that warrants hostility.

Saint? Osiris literally built the Sundial with the only objective of rescuing Saint who die in the Infinite Forest, and not our world. So saving him was also helped by the fact we didn't have to change things in our own time and space, but rather in the ones simulated by the Vex. So we can't go back in time because no Osiris and because Cayde was the cause of his own death.

So, let's say they did bring him back, what would he add to our story? More fun? More reasons for you stans to drool over him? Would he just talk secretly talk about Ace and just that? C'mon guys.

So once again. Enjoy Cayde all you want, do whatever you want with him! But stop living like he's the only reason Destiny 2 should exist, otherwise you're basically telling that everything the devs worked on this years means nothing to you, just because Cayde isn't here.

This is all so UNNECESSARY you guys! I promise, we can have different opinions without attacking people!! And this is coming from someone who DOESN’T think that Bungo should bring Cayde back (I’ll go into detail at some point, that’s an entirely different post tho.)

Like, who C A R E S if Cayde stans exist?! They’re talking about a character that brought them JOY and HAPPINESS, and if theorizing about ways in which that character could potentially be brought back to life ALSO makes them happy then WHO GIVES A TRANSMAT-FIRING F U C K?

L I K E W I SE, if people DON’T want Cayde to come back, it’s not an attack on Cayde as a character!! Some people just feel that his story wrapped up nicely and his legacy has carried the plot forward really well. It doesn’t mean that they’re “Antis” or “Haters” it just means that they’re happy with the way the story has played out and if it makes them happy then WHO GIVES A SEVENTH-COLUMN S H I T?

Just, the amount of unnecessary discourse and toxicity in this fandom is the only “Cringe” thing here. Cayde stans aren’t cringe, Mara stans aren’t cringe, Crow stans aren’t cringe. Something isn’t cringe just because you disagree with it. Attacking each other over a video game that’s supposed to be fun? That’s cringe. That’s it.
