Hunter gang headcanons. May be leading up to a super secret long form project, who knows.
Cayde
The only one here who’s more canon than headcanon
Place of resurrection: North American urban ruins
Ace, biromantic, he/him
Ghost: Sundance. A quiet yet curious Ghost who’s more than willing to go along with her guardian’s shenanigans.
Combat: midrange, solar (gunslinger). Relies on tripmines and explosives.
Weapons: Handcanon (Ace of Spades), fusion rifles (Loaded Question), grenade launcher (Acantha-D).
Exotic armor: Lucky Pants
Personality: you all know who Cayde is. In the Hunter gang he’s the group face, the smooth talker, the improviser. When things go south he’s the first to have a solution, although it may not be very well thought through. His playing cards are a sticking point: he loves the act of playing, but they also remind of the past Caydes. More than anything he’s afraid of being misremembered, by others or himself, and wants to know the stories of those who’ve worn his face in the past.
Relationships: Cayde loves all his friends. He’s got a lot of affection for a lot of people, and he shows it. His love language is physical touch, much to the dismay of one Tevis Larsen. He gets along with almost everyone in the tower, though he and Ana were on Zavala’s shitlist for a while. Unfortunately, those details are classified.
Shiro
Place of resurrection: mountains of Japan
Aro, heterosexual, he/him
Ghost: Suzume. A snarky Ghost who resents being seen as an accessory.
Combat: close range, arc (blade dancer).
Weapons: glaive (Refusal of the Call), sidearm (Trespasser) and sword (Half-Truths)
Exotic armor: Lucky Raspberry
Personality: Shiro’s got a cool head on his shoulders. He’s physically the largest of the bunch, but don’t let his size or bright yellow cloak fool you - he’s surprisingly sneaky. He values information and making informed decisions over almost anything in the field. While he maintains a calm facade, when faced with difficult circumstances he chooses to isolate himself. He’s spent so long being the rock others hold onto that he’s lost his own ability to ask for help.
Relationships: like Cayde, Shiro loves his friends. Unlike Cayde, he doesn’t show it unless prompted, content with spending time together. He’s especially close with Lush, who’s always on the same wavelength. He finds Shaxx’s screaming amusing from afar but overwhelming up close, preferring to stick to the edges of the hangar or out of the tower entirely.
Andal
Place of resurrection: Portuguese shoreline
Homosexual, he/him
Ghost: Luan. A Ghost stuck thinking in the past, who makes up for a lack of foresight with her exceptional hindsight.
Combat: long range, uhhhhhhhhh*
*Andal is one of the few guardians who can alter their element. Others of note include Tallulah Fairwind and the player character. It takes intense meditation to alter an element, often taking hours. During missions it’s safer just to stick to one. When switching, Andal plays solitaire to help focus. He can be whatever his fireteam needs, but he usually sticks to void thanks to Tevis’ unpredictable nature.
Weapons: scout rifle (Patron of Lost Causes), sniper (Borealis), linear fusion (Line in the Sand).
Exotic armor: Knucklehead Radar
Personality: Andal is the group leader, the mastermind behind their plans. He excels at seeing the whole picture at all times, without losing sight of important details. While he’s organized and in charge during missions, during downtime he tends to get lost in his own head, which leads to overindulgence of particular vices as a way to distract himself.
Relationships: Andal is slow to make allies and slower to make friends. That’s why when he realized he was in love with his best friend, he didn’t say anything. For 30 years. Like his best friend, he’s very tactile but ultimately finds the most value in words of affirmation. He’s the one person who can peacefully resolve an argument between Ana and Zavala, but isn’t dumb enough to get between a feuding Saint and Osiris.
Tevis
Place of resurrection: the arctic circle.
The token straight, he/him.
Ghost: Anchor. Speaks only in Morse code, and is just as strange as his guardian.
Combat: long ranged, void (night stalker).
Weapons: sidearm (Rat King), bow (Non-Denouement)*, and sniper rifle (Refurbished A499)
*he uses his bow as a catalyst for his void bow.
Exotic armor: Omniocculus
Personality: Tevis is begrudgingly part of the group. Loathe as he is to admit it, he does truly care about them, sometimes more than himself. He can’t stay in one place for long, always looking for some corner of the system left unturned. He’s an exceptional night stalker, but by achieving that he’s long since ignored his own limits. He’s constantly knocking at deaths door because he pushes himself too far.
Relationships: despite their violently different personalities, Tevis and Nian grew especially close. They were the first of the crew to be revived, and their bond is older than the Hunter gang. Tevis appreciates favors more than anything, and preforms acts of service while insisting “it’s nothing, don’t thank me”. Tevis only started working with the Vanguard after Andal joined them, and even then it was begrudgingly. He’s said maybe 8 words to Ikora in his lifetime.
Nian
Place of resurrection: Outside the Jiangshi Metro, China
Pan, some gender fuckery but she doesn’t know and neither does anyone else. She/any
Ghost: Red. a grounded, stern Ghost who balances out her guardian’s wild impulses.
Combat: close range, solar. Relies on the radiant status. Her abilities look like firecrackers, and are just as distracting as they are deadly.
Weapons: auto rifle (Firefight), trace rifle (Retraced path), and rocket launchers (Dragon’s Breath).
Exotic armor: Gemini Jester
Personality: Nian is the brightest light amongst guardians. Her optimism and energy have no rival, and she’s always ready to make others smile - during the dawning she teams up with Saint-14 to bring joy to the city’s children, and after missions she cooks for the crew. It’s no wonder then, she burned so brightly against the dark that she it must’ve been her to be snuffed out first.
Lush
Place of resurrection: Scottish flood lands.
Aro/ace, he/they
Ghost: Bydand. The loudest lil Ghost, who is excited about everything and wants everyone to know.
Combat: close ranged, arc (arcstrider). Usually outlasts enemies instead of killing them outright.
Weapons: pulse rifle (Lincoln Green), smg (Tarrabah), sword (The Other Half).
Personality: when he isn’t in gear people assume Lush is a titan, not a hunter. He’s quiet and introspective, and has taken up sewing as a hobby. In fact, his cloak is a patchwork quilt made from various scraps of fabric found around the tower or on missions, and gets longer every year. He also mends the gear for his friends as a way to express gratitude. He and Shiro are especially close, and it stresses Shiro out every time Lush takes a hit for someone else. He finds Ikora fascinating, and one day would like to spend an afternoon sewing in the same room as her, but is too shy to introduce himself.
Ana
Place of resurrection: Bray Exoscience Center, Europa.
Lesbian, she/her
Ghost: Jinju. A Ghost as captivated by the arts as her guardian is by the sciences.
Combat: long range, solar.
Weapons: scout rifle (Polaris Lance), hand cannon (Jack Queen King 3), combat bow (Submersion).
Exotic armor: FR0ST-EE5
Personality: you also all know who Ana is. She was always more of an honorary member of the Hunter Gang, always off on her own. Most of her ties to the rest of the crew come from Andal, her mentor. She has a deep respect for Osiris and his renegade attitude, which is also why Ana and Zavala don’t get along.
