Do you know where your nearest defibrillator is?

If not, why not?

Do you have a defibrillator?

Are your consumables within expiry?

Did you know your electrode pads expire, the gel degrades and then your entire defibrillator is useless?

If you’re in Aotearoa you can use the AED locations app to find out where your nearest defibrillator is (if in doubt, all petrol stations, police stations, and gyms in Aotearoa have one onsite)

Do you have a defibrillator at home or work that isn’t listed on the app? If not why not? Did you know you can list the hours the unit is accessible, you can still have it available even though it’s not available 24/7.

Is your defibrillator in a code cabinet? Have you logged the code with 111? If not, no one will be able to access your unit in an emergency.

Are you doing your monthly checks on your defibrillator? You should be.

Are you getting APV testing done on your defibrillator? Not a check, an actual APV where a shock is put through the unit. If not, why not?

Nooooooo!

Defibrillators are meant to correct a chaotic heart rhythm. It can’t Frankenstein a heart with no electrical signal back to life.

Fibrillation is your heart quivering instead of beating properly. What defibrillators do is stop your heart with electricity so your heart can reset its own conduction system and correct itself.

You know the meme “have you tried turning it off and back on again”? That’s what defibrillators do, literally!
