“Diane? Diane are you there? Diane, I need you”
I miss you
Cis men are not the “default” or “true” state of masculinity.
there’s this subconscious idea that most people have, and it’s that to be a cis man is to be a “true” man. It is the truest state of being male. That’s why transmasculine people are often criticized if they don’t strive to be as close to cis as possible.
Dress masculine. Change your name. Use he/him. Cut your hair shorter. Bind your chest. Get bottom surgery. Take testosterone. Those are all things that imply masculinity, because they’re what cis men are like. If you’re not striving to be as close to cis as possible, are you even a man at all? Because that’s what’s perceived as the truest state of being a man. “Passing.” If you aren’t passing as a cis man, you may as well not be a man at all.
THIS is transandrophobia at its core. This constant need to be as close to cis as possible, to treat transmasculine people as cis men, because if you don’t see them as cis, you don’t see them as a man at all. But that’s not true.
“Cis” isn’t the default. It’s not a goal to be reached. It doesn’t have to be, not if you don’t want to. I think people should stop treating traditional masculinity as the truest form of male identity. You can be a man while using she/her. You can be a man while having a large chest. You can be a man while wearing dresses and skirts every day. You can be a man while having long hair. You can be a man while having a feminine name. Because cis isn’t the only way to be a man.
i hate them… this is so ass but whatever

Until I joined tumblr I had not heard of 90% of the transfem vs transmasc discourse IRL. Surprise surprise, trans people offline have much better community. In real life, we’re out uplifting each other instead of tearing each other down. Hell, not even TikTok has this bad of a discourse issue when it comes to being trans. I would rather experience straight up transphobia from a cis person than the bullshit I hear from other trans people online. I’d take getting called “tranny” by the cis boys in school over “birthday boy” by transfems on tumblr.
Want to be happier? Get offline. Go to a pride parade. Go read LGBTQ+ authors. Go buy a pride flag. Go talk to other queer people. Build a community and celebrate the diversity. You’ll be happier, I promise.
I’m taking a break from Tumblr discourse. Mutuals feel free to interact whenever, but I’ll probably be less active for a bit.
