Daigaku Imo (Japanese Candied Sweet Potatoes)

something that you will find on my dinner table a lot this winter: daigaku imo (recipe here) and veggie stew (broth made with kombu dashi, shiitake and mirin. add any veggies you like, I had carrots, cabbage, daikon and fried tofu. garnished with welsh onion and shichimi togarashi.

和風ポテトフライ 大学いもの味 // McDonald’s ‘Daigaku Imo’ Fries There’s a snack made of sweet potatoes in a honey & sesame sauce, and it’s called daigaku imo  (大学いも lit. ‘college potato’) because it’s cheap and easy. Sadly, Japanese McDonald’s didn’t start making sweet potato fries; it’s just a special sauce packet for your regular fries. But maybe that’s for the best because this was really, really sweet. Makes me miss last year, when things were simpler and the fries were covered in chocolate.

Made candied sweet potatoes in honey syrup today. I could have let them fry a little longer since they weren’t as soft and crispy as they could be, but they were still delicious!

Daigaku imo. Honey glazed sweet potato. Tastes nice.
