Sesame is an important oil seed crop worldwide. However, its production faces a number of challenges such as infestation by insect pests and diseases, use of unimproved seeds by farmers and drought. Among all, insect pest is considered the most serious challenge affecting sesame production particularly in the Africa region. The common insect pests affecting sesame production in African smallholder farmers are Myzus persicae, Aphis gossypii, Bemisia tabaci, Antigastra catalaunalis, Orosius albicinctus, Tetranychus urticae, Spodoptera frugiperda and Alocypha bimaculata. These insect pests infest sesame at different stages of growth posing immense damage resulting into huge loss of yields. To control these insect pests most African smallholder farmers, use synthetic pesticides. However, most of those synthetic pesticides used cause environmental pollution and detriment effects to pollinators and natural enemies. Sticky Sesame Chicken Wings are a delicious appetizer or main dish featuring tender chicken wings coated in a sweet and savory sauce, finished with a sprinkle of sesame seeds and green onions.
Ingredients: 2 lbs chicken wings. 1/4 cup soy sauce. 1/4 cup hoisin sauce. 1/4 cup honey. 2 tablespoons rice vinegar. 2 cloves garlic, minced. 1 tablespoon grated ginger. 2 tablespoons sesame oil. 1 tablespoon cornstarch. 2 tablespoons water. 2 tablespoons sesame seeds, toasted. 2 green onions, thinly sliced.
Instructions: Preheat the oven to 400F 200C. Arrange the chicken wings on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper or aluminum foil. In a small saucepan, combine soy sauce, hoisin sauce, honey, rice vinegar, garlic, ginger, and sesame oil. Bring the mixture to a simmer over medium heat and cook for 5 minutes. In a small bowl, mix cornstarch with water to create a slurry. Whisk the slurry into the sauce and continue to cook until the sauce thickens, about 2 minutes. Brush the sauce over the chicken wings, reserving some for serving. Bake the chicken wings for 35-40 minutes, or until they are cooked through and crispy, flipping halfway through. Once cooked, remove the wings from the oven and brush with the remaining sauce. Sprinkle toasted sesame seeds and sliced green onions over the wings before serving.

Tofu Sesame Toasts are a delightful blend of crunchy toast topped with flavorful seasoned tofu, toasted sesame seeds, and fresh green onions. It's a quick and easy snack or light meal that's bursting with Asian-inspired flavors.
Ingredients: 200g firm tofu, drained and pressed. 2 tablespoons soy sauce. 1 tablespoon sesame oil. 1 tablespoon rice vinegar. 1 tablespoon honey. 1 teaspoon minced ginger. 2 cloves garlic, minced. 4 slices bread. 2 tablespoons sesame seeds. 2 green onions, thinly sliced.
Instructions: In a bowl, crumble the tofu with a fork. Add soy sauce, sesame oil, rice vinegar, honey, ginger, and garlic. Mix well. Spread the tofu mixture evenly on each slice of bread. Sprinkle sesame seeds over the tofu mixture. Place the bread slices on a baking sheet and broil in the oven for 5-7 minutes until golden brown and crispy. Remove from oven and sprinkle with sliced green onions. Serve hot and enjoy!
