A birthday in Peru means cooking all day, and dancing and drinking all night with 40 family members squished in one room....
Typical Sunday morning in the Plaza.
I'm in love with the little lamb's fancy hat.
I know this isn’t Paris, and Peru isn’t on the cutting edge of fashion...but what’s with jeans not having pockets? Apparently the fashion suppliers here don't believe in pockets. I can’t find a normal pair anywhere...not that they would fit lengthwise anyway...

Floats from today’s parade
Hygiene? What’s that?
Now I know different cultures do things differently. But sometimes you just have to shake your head and say: WTF??
For instance, here when you’re hanging out with your friends, you buy a case a 40s and drink them one at a time, passing the bottle around, using one cup. They stand around in a circle and pass the beer around. Once your done with your cup - which by the way is the size of a Dixie cup - you pass it to the guy standing next to you.
Yeah, it seems weird....and a little gross. I mean, I like my friends and don't mind sharing a sip with them, but here you would be swapping saliva with 10 other people as the one cup is passed around.
I also find it strange that only one person at a time gets to enjoy the frothy, tasty beer. Guess it allows them to drink longer.... ;)
But what totally freaks me out is this:
If you look closely, you’ll see the woman in the brown sweater sitting down is selling Peruvian drinks - chicha morada and quinoa drinks. They are in big plastic buckets. Then you’ll see the three guys and a lady drinking from glass cups. She fills up the cup and they stand on the street guzzling their beverage. When they are done, she dunks the glasses in a bucket of water - which I imagine isn't the cleanest - and gets the glass ready for the next stranger on the street that is thirsty.
To say I was grossed out is an understatement! These Peruvians must have a strong immune system. I know if that happened in NYC, we’d all be sick with each others’ germs. Yuck!
