Hygiene? What’s that?
Now I know different cultures do things differently. But sometimes you just have to shake your head and say: WTF??
For instance, here when you’re hanging out with your friends, you buy a case a 40s and drink them one at a time, passing the bottle around, using one cup. They stand around in a circle and pass the beer around. Once your done with your cup - which by the way is the size of a Dixie cup - you pass it to the guy standing next to you.
Yeah, it seems weird....and a little gross. I mean, I like my friends and don't mind sharing a sip with them, but here you would be swapping saliva with 10 other people as the one cup is passed around.
I also find it strange that only one person at a time gets to enjoy the frothy, tasty beer. Guess it allows them to drink longer.... ;)
But what totally freaks me out is this:
If you look closely, you’ll see the woman in the brown sweater sitting down is selling Peruvian drinks - chicha morada and quinoa drinks. They are in big plastic buckets. Then you’ll see the three guys and a lady drinking from glass cups. She fills up the cup and they stand on the street guzzling their beverage. When they are done, she dunks the glasses in a bucket of water - which I imagine isn't the cleanest - and gets the glass ready for the next stranger on the street that is thirsty.
To say I was grossed out is an understatement! These Peruvians must have a strong immune system. I know if that happened in NYC, we’d all be sick with each others’ germs. Yuck!
