yeah no wonder megumi is so pissy cause imagine having to work on taming your shikigami and losing them forever in one hit I would CRASH tf out, I would not get over losing my white divine dog and great serpent but specifically the great serpent like how did megumi even tame that??? Knowing that they get permadeath would just have me spamming the bunnies. The bunnies and just use the other shadow feats like hiding weapons or hiding in shadows. He could be like tenten with extra sneak buff.

June of (minimal) Doom 2024 Day 21 - Let's play a game
Satoru swears under his breath. The curse they are currently up against was supposed to be a second grade at best, but itās a special grade and it fucking talks.
He thinks if he doesnāt kill Yaga when they get back then Suguru most definitely will, going by the absolute fury in his eyes.
āWe have to end this, Satoru,ā Suguru pants out when Satoru comes to a stop next to him.
The curse is leading them on, Satoru can tell, and the longer they allow that to happen the more dangerous it gets. They are being tired out while the curse is still as strong as it has been and if they keep doing this it only will end badly for them.
āAnd we will,ā Satoru nods, new determination burning in his chest.
They were supposed to go on a date today before this mission interrupted their perfectly planned day and Satoru canāt say that heās too pleased about that. He hates it when date time gets interrupted.
āAlright then, better get to it,ā Suguru decides with a smirk at Satoru and just like that his competitive streak is on.
They should have done this sooner, Satoru thinks, as they intercept the curse at every point because like this itās almost laughably easy.
Satoru and Suguru really do bring out the best in each other.
The curse seems to notice that something has changed too because its attempts go get to them get more desperate by the minute but for all that it talks and talks and talks, it doesnāt know where to hit at all.
Satoru knows that they have this in the bag with his next attack because by then the curse will be so weakened that Suguru can easily turn it into one of his orbs and that thought is enough to make him that bit faster, to make his aim with red that much more precise.
āFine,ā the curse wheezes out once half of its body is blown off. āLetās play a game then,ā he whispers, leaning towards Satoru so Suguru canāt hear and then Satoru watches how it almost goes willingly when Suguru reaches out to transform it.
Something must be wrong, Satoru thinks but his reaction comes a second too late.
āWait!ā he cries out, just as Suguru swallows the curse down and Satoru is met with wide eyes.
āWhat? Why? Is something wrong?ā he asks and Satoru shrugs.
Itās not as if they can do anything now, because Suguru already absorbed the curse and whatever its game was is either foiled by that fact or will play out and if Satoru mentions what it said to Suguru then heāll only worry.
And Satoru really doesnāt want that because now that they are done they can finally get back to their date plans.
āEverything is fine, I guess,ā he says after a moment and even though Suguru narrows his eyes at him, he eventually shrugs it off when Satoru doesnāt say anything else.
āCan we get back now?ā Satoru asks with a sigh, knowing damn well that their take-out has long gone cold back in their dorm rooms but looking forward to spending time with Suguru nonetheless.
āYeah, sure, that way I can get rid of you faster,ā Suguru says, almost absentmindedly and Satoru freezes as soon as he processes the words.
Suguru doesnāt seem to fair much better, going by the surprised look on his face and he belatedly clams a hand over his mouth.
āWhat?ā Satoru asks, his voice faint because he doesnāt understand whatās going on.
āI said, itās a good idea because that way I can get rid of you faster. You think I enjoy spending all my goddamn time with you? Donāt be ridiculous, Satoru,ā Suguru says, and his voice isnāt even mean.
It makes it that much harder to understand what he says but once the words really hit Satoru it almost feels as if a stone is dropping in his stomach.
āIs thisāthe curse?ā Satoru dares to ask, even though it wouldnāt make a difference.
Chances are itās some kind of technique that forces Suguru to say what he really thinks and in all honesty, Satoru shouldnāt be surprised.
He knew that this was coming eventually. He just thought heād have more time.
āOkay,ā Satoru says with a shaky smile when Suguru nods with huge eyes. āWe have to get you to Shoko, so she can check you out.ā
āSatoru,ā Suguru says but cuts himself off before more words can spill out and Satoru avoids his eyes.
He always knew that Suguru is just too nice to say whatās really on his mind, but he canāt deny that it hurts.
āYouāre so annoying,ā Suguru says through clenched teeth and the look on his face speaks of pure desperation. āYou might be the strongest but what does that even matter when your personality fucking sucks?ā
āYeah, youāre right,ā Satoru forces himself to says, scratching the back of his head. āItās hard to get the whole package, huh?ā
Maybe if he just plays this off, if he pretends that this doesnāt hurt as much as it does, then he can get through this.
Thereās no way they will get through this because Satoru is pretty sure that after today there wonāt be a them to speak of anymore but maybe if Satoru pushes all of his feelings away right now, he wonāt come out completely shattered at the end.
Hereās to hoping, he bitterly thinks and forces himself to look away when he spots tears in Suguruās eyes.
Of course Suguru never wanted him to know that; he truly is too good for his own sake and Satoru probably should have never confessed to him in the first place. He thought Suguru has always been pretty good at saying no to him so he dared to risk it, secure in the knowledge that Suguru wouldnāt just go along with it because of who he is, but of course he had to be wrong in that regard, too.
āSatoru, will you please just go?ā Suguru presses out, clearly using every ounce of willpower he has to not say whatever truth wants to spill out next and Satoru nods.
āIāllāteleport back, inform Shoko of whatās happening, so you wonāt have to explain anything to her,ā Satoru offers and it sees as if his talking is setting Suguru off again, because despite the way he still clenches his mouth shut, words spill out.
āItās so laughable that you think I could really love you. Youāre so goddamn annoying. Iām glad for every second we donāt have to spend together. And the way you canāt keep your mouth shut! It makes me want to punch you so bad.ā
āGreat,ā Satoru mutters, fighting the stinging of his eyes. āMaybe we can ask Yaga for more solo missions once this is over,ā he suggests and valiantly pretends that his heart isnāt currently crumbling in his chest.
He thinks he has trouble breathing but in all honesty he is too numb to really notice anything right now.
āIāllāgo then,ā he weakly says, and teleports out of there before Suguru can word vomit again.
Shoko startles badly when Satoru lands in her room but he doesnāt care.
All he wants right now is to hide himself away and never come back out because losing Suguru like this feels as if his chest is caving in and heād really like to have a breakdown about this in peace.
āWhat the fuck!ā
āSuguru is on his way back. The last curse he consumed did something to him, a truth spell or something along those lines,ā he tells her and even to his own ears his voice sounds horribly flat.
āWhat? Thatās so rare, and Geto doesnāt shy away to say the truth anyway, so how would you know?ā
āOh, believe me, thereās plenty he doesnāt normally say,ā Satoru whispers and canāt help the few tears that spill over.
It seems it catches Shoko completely off guard because her look is absolutely horrified.
āWhat the hell happened?ā
āHe was justāvery vocal about his feelings for me,ā Satoru says, even as he walks towards the door. āIāyou can tell him I wonāt come to class for a few days, that the message is received. Iāll talk to Yaga too, about the solo missions, so he doesnāt have to worry about that. I wonātātell him I get it. I wonāt bother him again.ā
āThat is so fucking wrong, I donāt even know where to start,ā Shoko whispers and Satoru gives her a court nod.
āThanks for taking care of him.ā
He slips out of her room, not looking back, not looking around to see if Suguru is already close and once heās in his room, he simplyāstops.
His head is a mess and his heart is in shambles and it feels an awful lot as if his spirit is broken and for a moment Satoru can do nothing but force himself to breathe. His thoughts are screaming at him in rage, his heart is screaming at him in pain and the contradicting feelings make him feel sick to his stomach.
If he has to throw up now, heāll cry his eyes out, he just knows it, so he swallows everything back and then sits down on the bed.
Satoru feels almost brittle, as if too much movement could break him apart into a thousand pieces at any moment, but sitting at the edge of his bed is good. He can do that.
He can do that until he has to pick himself back up again and go out there, and maybe heāll piece himself back together wrong but who cares, right?
As long as he functions, as long as he can still be useful, can still be the strongest it doesnāt matter one bit.
Satoru doesnāt know how long he spends like that on his bed but by the time the door to his room flies open itās already dark out and Satoru feels stiff like a statue. He barely manages to get his eyes to focus and it doesnāt help at all when he realises that itās Suguru who is standing in his room, chest heaving with how fast he must have run here.
āIāthis is my room,ā Satoru says, voice completely devoid of inflection. āYou canāt tell me to get lost from here.ā
āI love you,ā Suguru blurts out and crosses the room in three huge strides. āFuck, Satoru, I love you and I am so, so sorry, I didnāt know,ā he almost cries out and Satoru is too surprised to do anything.
He didnāt think Suguru would go back to lying to him.
āItās okay,ā Satoru forces himself to say. āYou donāt have to do this. I get it. Itās fine. You canāIām not mad, or anything.ā
āBut you should be, gods, you should be, Satoru. Shoko said you think this is some kind of technique that makes me say the truth, so you should really definitely be fucking furious with me if you think I would lie to you like that.ā
āIt doesnāt matter,ā he whispers, because nothing matters anymore and he wheezes when Suguru hugs him even tighter.
āIt wasnāt a truth thing,ā he finally says and itās a good thing Satoru is already mostly motionless because that would have made him freeze again.
āYes, it was.ā
āNo. It made me say what you were most afraid of hearing,ā Suguru says and Satoru wonders why heās doing this.
He already cut all ties between them, what reason could he possibly have to lie now?
āI know you donāt believe me, but now that the effect has worn off, I can use the curse to do the same to other people,ā Suguru whispers and hides his face in Satoruās neck. āSoāI want to use it on you, so you understand that nothing what I said is what I truly feel.ā
āSuguruāā he cuts himself off because with what was said, he doesnāt think he has the right to call him that, so Satoru tries again. āGeto.ā The name sounds stiff and wrong in his mouth and Satoru almost feels bad for the way it makes Suguru flinch. āItās okay. Weāll justānot. Not anything, you know. Not talk, not see each other, itās fine.ā
āItās fucking not!ā Suguru suddenly yells out, his voice wet with tears. āYou donāt get a say in this. Iām sorry, Satoru, but Iām using that technique on you.ā
He pulls away, a determined look on his face and before Satoru can say something else he feels Suguruās cursed energy spike before it settles over him.
And just like that he canāt keep his mouth shut anymore, words being torn from his throat.
āYouāre such a boring, righteous person. You think anyone wants to be around you with that judging look and your flat personality? Grow a character. And you think you have any right to stand besides me? Youāre nothing compared to me and I donāt need you. I donāt even want you around because youāre just holding me back. Youāre just like everyone else and itās really laughable for you to think that you will ever be anything but average.ā
Satoruās hand flies to his mouth, but itās too late already, the words are already out there and just like that, Suguruās cursed energy fizzles out into nothing.
Suguru works his jaw a few times, before a determined look settles over his face.
āThere,ā he almost spits out. āWas that the truth you said just now?ā he demands to know and even though he tries to look stern, Satoru spots the minute shaking of his voice.
āNo,ā Satoru immediately cries out. āIt felt as if the words were pulled out of me, but I have no idea where they came from.ā
āItās what Iām afraid of hearing from you,ā Suguru admits and even though itās clearly not easy for him, he meets Satoruās eyes.
āAnd what I said is what youāre afraid of hearing from me. Thereās no truth to these words. The curse is just preying on our insecurities.ā
Satoru opens the mouth to argue with him about that, because surely there must be some truth to what Suguru had said to him but he remembers how it felt, to have that cursed technique on him and he realises that Suguru is right.
There was no truth in any of the words Satoru just said; those words werenāt even things he has ever thought before, not once in the time he has known Suguru, and if that is true for him, then the same must be true for Suguru, right?
āI donāt think any of those things,ā Satoru says, because he feels as if he should and Suguru gives him a shaky smile.
āAnd I donāt think any of the things I said to you before either. I love you, Satoru, personality and non-stop running mouth and all. I really do. I never want to be parted from you.ā
āYouāre not average,ā Satoru immediately gives back because the thought that Suguru could really think that about himself is unbelievable to him. āYouāre incredible and wonderful and youāre not holding me back and everyone loves you and finds you approachable because you are a wonderful human!ā
āOkay,ā Suguru says, his eyes a bit watery.
āIām so sorry I believed you would say these things to me,ā Satoru cries out because what if he damaged the trust between them now by easily believing what Suguru said?
āPlease tell me weāre not about to develop another issue between us,ā Suguru sighs out. āI canāt take anymore, this was already taxing enough.ā
āButāā
āSatoru, the technique is specifically designed for me to say what you fear to hear the most from me. Of course youād believe it, because itās what you already believe deep down. The same goes for me. I would have believed you in a heartbeat if you said any of that because I am so afraid that itās true. It doesnāt have anything to do with trust. I know you trust me. I know you love me. And I feel the same.ā
Satoru takes a moment to digest that and figures Suguru is probably right. He has to be, because Satoru thinks he canāt take it if he isnāt.
He already lost Suguru once todayāhowever fabricated and forced that wasāand he doesnāt think he can do it again. Not today and not ever.
āI am really, really tired,ā Satoru says and leans forward, falling into Suguruās arms.
āI am, too,ā he agrees. āDate night is kind of ruined, but is a cuddle session still on the table?ā he asks and immediately Satoruās hands shoot out to grab Suguruās shirt.
āYouāre not leaving my sight today,ā he decides and Suguru nods.
āThen lets get to bed, alright?ā
Satoru easily slides under the cover, not daring to let go of Suguru in fear of him running out on him, but Suguru is right behind him and soon enough they are curled up together.
āWeāll have to talk about this again,ā Suguru mutters into the space between them. āI donāt like how you think any of what I said could be real. I hate that you think it could be true.ā
Satoru really doesnāt want to hear that right now, but he gets where Suguru is coming from because knowing that Suguru thinks so lowly of himself, hurts him in ways he wasnāt prepared for.
āSame,ā he gives back which makes Suguru smile. āBut not today.ā
āHell no,ā Suguru immediately agrees and pulls Satoru closer. āToday we only do this.ā
Satoru snuggles into Suguru, scooting as close as he can and he sighs when he is finally able to hear Suguruās heartbeat.
Today was horrible and under no circumstances does he ever want to do it again, but he has to admit that the end is kind of okay.
Suguru is back in his arms and they will just have to work harder on believing that the other is exactly where he wants to be. But they will do that together, too.
heyy sorry to ask but iām kinda confused as to how cursed techniques manifest/work
i think somewhere in canon itās state that when a sorcerer is around 5-6 they manifest their cts (and would imply that they know how to use it to some extent like breathing or sleeping i think someone said) but if the sorcerers like Hakari have to figure out their techniques over the years then how do these things function ykwim?
(Rubs hands) So!
In the context of zenith of stars; yes, a sorcerer usually shows signs of their cursed techniques around ages 4-6, if they have one. (Mentioned by Ieiri alll the way back in chapter 2). This holds true for most people across the board.
Something else that should be noted: It's also canonical that we have people out there with potential for sorcery, but are unable to consciously use/control their cursed technique because they were never trained to. Looking at you, Okkotsu. (Granted, he'd be an exaggerated example of this, what with his Special Grade potential).
Hoshi is actually in a similar boat to Okkotsu. He has a cursed technique and the aptitude for sorcery, but he was never taught or trained to harness it until he met Shiki.
... So, that's the explanation for Hoshi! Now let's take a look at Hakari.
In Hakari's case, I see him as being similar to Higuruma. Their personalities and experiences are a strong influence in their respective cursed techniques, which leads me to think that their cursed techniques are 'malleable.' So for Hakari, his cursed technique technically activated when he was young, but it hasn't fully developed/matured enough yet for him to use.
Think of it like the Ten Shadows. Toji was able to tell super early that Megumi had a strong cursed technique (hence selling Megumi to Naobito), so clearly that would be the 'early signs' of a cursed technique showing up in Megumi. However, it's stated that "The Ten Shadows Technique begins when a sorcerer receives two Divine Dogs," (manga 117) which obviously didn't show up for Megumi until later on, otherwise Toji would've told Naobito what technique his kid had when selling him for extra money.
The time between Megumi showing signs of having a cursed technique and actually receiving the Divine Dogs would be the so-called "development period."
For Hakari (and Higuruma), his (their) cursed technique's development period happens to be lengthier and more complicated.
This also ties into what I call "invisible cursed techniques." AKA where there is a cursed technique and you know it exists, except you also don't know what it does, so it seems effectively useless on the surface. Shigemo Haruta's cursed technique, for example. (He's the blond-haired cursed user who stores "miracles." It's canonical that even he doesn't know what his cursed technique actually does.)
I'm pretty sure that there's also a mention of this particular type of "invisible" techniques somewhere in zenith, although I can't remember where off the top of my head.
If Hakari was born into a sorcery clan, he'd be considered to have an invisible/useless cursed technique.
The userās body is always (passively) absorbing cursed energy from the area around them. Due to this, itās not uncommon for their body to be naturally immune to the negative effects of highly-concentrated cursed energy - their ability acts like a personal barrier. The user is consistently regarded as having aĀ āpositive auraā by others, and their passive absorption of cursed energy can even be fatal to very low-level curses.
Because the userās body is built to take in cursed energy, it is nearly impossible for them to use it in traditional jujutsu - but with enough skill and experience, they can channel their excess cursed energy for another person to use, acting like an amplifier. Because of this potential, the utility of the user when properly trained and placed with a partner (especially a high-grade sorcerer) can be extraordinary.
Cursed Illusions
By carefully shaping their cursed energy, the user can create illusions of variable form, though they are not physical and cannot be touched nor harm another person. The resource requirement for this technique can vary, depending on how large the illusion is and how many people are perceiving it.Ā
For example, creating a small illusion visible by a dozen people may have the same cursed energy requirement as one large illusion visible only to one person. The user must be cautious not to overextend themselves, so a thorough understanding of the battlefield is key to utilizing their technique to the fullest capacity.
Shape Shifter
By channeling their cursed energy through their body in a specific way, the user is afforded an ability very similar to traditional shape-shifting. The amount of their body the user is able to augment or change is proportional to the cursed energy requirement; the average user may be able to change their hands to claws or otherwise bolster the muscles in their legs for extra physical speed, but very few are able to do full-body shifting.Ā
Due to how little is understood about how cursed energy effects the body with this technique in the long term, extreme caution is needed by any user to ensure there are no detrimental side effects to their physical and mental health.
Please feel welcome to use any of the concepts above for your own OCs and self-inserts. Iām just someone who loves thinking up of cool powers when a franchise gives me the lore and wiggle room to do so >:3c

HI! I love reading your metas! They're really insightful and they make me appreciate series I love a heck of a lot more. Especially JJK and MHA. Could you talk about what some of the characters cursed techniques may represent in the story, im super curious on what you could say on that.
Sure, but Iāll just do the main four characters for now because thatās easier. Iām also going to simplify the cursed techniques because thatās easier to show how theyāre symbolic in story.Ā Gojoās two main techniques areĀ āthe infinityā andĀ āunlimited voidā. They each serve as symbolism for the central flaws of his character.Ā
The infinity is something which makes it impossible for any techniques to reach Satoru. It makes him untouchable at all times. What is Satoru Gojoās greatest difficult as a character? Itās getting closer to other people.Ā
Gojo has it in his head that the only person who can stand next to him is someone equally as strong as he is. Which is why he allowed Geto in for a long time, until Gojo becameĀ āthe strongestā alone. In the year after that moment, Gojo and Geto grew further and further apart because Gojo was now strong enough to handle every mission on his own. When Geto just leaves, Gojo is shocked that he canāt reach him. Gojo is an untouchable person, and, someone unable to reach the person he truly cares about in time. He canāt touch Geto, at least not in a way that matters, not in a way that would save him.Ā
This is also something Kamo Sr. complains about later, specifically referring to this scene. For Gojo, other people will only ever be something that gets in his way, specifically because of his cursed technique.
Gojoās second technique is the unlimited void. He specifically says this to Jogo when using it against him for the first time.Ā
Hereās thes skinny, the real irony here is heās talking about himself. Gojo is someone capable of anything, and yet heās incapable of affecting the world in the way he wants. He wants political reform, but the way to do that is to bow your head and play politics, the two things Gojo is terrible at.Ā
Gojo is someone who can do anything, and yet at the same time fails at everything he sets out to achieve. His great power doesnāt really enable him to do anything he wants, because heās just one person like everybody else in the world. He could kill all the higher ups but that wouldnāt change things. Gojo is bad at politics so, when he fails in Shibuya, heās the one who ends up exiled and blamed for letting himself get sealed by the elders who hold all the true power in the situation.
His domain is the perfect metaphor for his character, someone who simultaneously holds all the power and is ultimately powerless.Ā
These other ones are going to be a little bit quicker because we havenāt gotten as many details on their cursed techniques. Thereās some serious foiling going on with Yuji and Megumiās cursed techniques. Yuji and Megumi both revolve around the concept of the shadow. The shadow is the other self, or the repressed self. Both of these characters deal with a lot of themes of repression.Ā
Itās commented several times that Megumi has way more potential, having inherited what is most likely the most powerful technique in the Zenin arsenal in the ten shadows. However, at the same time heās someone who ignores his own potential my repressing himself.Ā
Megumi is someone who continually represses himself by saying that thereās no way he could ever be as strong as Gojo. He pretends to be weaker than he really is. However, repressing himself is what makes his shadow grow even more powerful.Ā
Megumi and Yuji are both characters who are built around the idea of repressing themselves until they go nuts. Theyāre both embodying this jungian idea of the other self, the repressed shadow. They both, flip, for lack of a better term.Ā
Megumi is all silent brooding until he goes crazy with power. We donāt know what Yujiās technique is, but not only does he show the same behavior, all smiles on the surface until he flips out into a violent rage. Yuji also specifically has two sides to himself. The other side is Sukuna, a violent murderer. Weāre also shown gradually, over the course of the story, the two sides coming closer to one another.Ā
Both Megumi and Sukuna repress themselves, so their selves are split. Megumi has a shadow based technique, as a metaphor for his true potential being much, much more than he says it is. Sukuna being the flip side of Yuji, shows how Yuji divides himself betwee hisĀ āviolent selfā and hisĀ āfriendly, nice guyā normal self that he uses mainly to interact with others. Megumi suppresses his potential, Yuji his violent side.Ā
Nobaraās main technique is using pins into a straw doll, to hurt others in the same area on their bodies. (Simplifying, for the sake of time). Rsonance inflicts pain on another person using an effigy, like a hair, or blood, connected to an avatar like the straw doll, or even in some cases her own body like in Origin of Obedience.Ā
Itās actually a pretty common place way to curse others in japan, like you could buy a doll, tie someoneās hair to it, and then stick pins in it. Itās like ouji boards are for us, itās like a curse thatās in the common popular knowledge. A teen girl might try to curse someone if their boyfriend cheats on them. Itās like how people in america can have witchcraft phases when theyāre teenagers (not talking about like, actual practicing wiccans and whatnot). Thereās also a commonly used phrase in japan,Ā āWhen youāre cursing someone prepare to dig two graves.ā It means, that in the decision to curse someone else, the curse might rebound and affect yourself too. Like, how revenge wonāt just hurt the person you want to avenge yourself on, you might end up hurting somebody else, or even yourself in the process.Ā
Not only does Nobara physically experience this once, she curses herself using resonance in order to harm somebody else by using her body as the straw doll proxy. Nobaraās central character trait is her complete lack of sympathy for other people.Ā
If you try to get Nobara to sympathize, her usual response isĀ āI donāt care.ā Nobara being low empathy doesnāt mean sheās a good or bad person, itās just a facet of who she is. However, she is a very self righteous person. Which factors into her cursed technique, sheās the kind of person who could curse, inflict pain on another, without thinking about how it might rebound and affect her or someone else. Which is exactly what the straw doll proxy does, it inflicts pain, one nail at a time. Nobara doesnāt like it when good people get hurt, same as Yuji, same as Megumi, but when she sees herself in the right she has no problem at all punishing what she calls aĀ ābadā person.Ā
The name of Gojouās Limitlessā form āReversal: Redā has actual, solid foundation, connected to theĀ Doppler Shift.
Specifically, the āRed-shiftā.
The easy ways of explaining it are two: a star or an ambulanceās siren.
Yeah, I know, pretty different objects, but itās gonna make sense, I promise.
First of all, we have to talk about the involvment of light (and sound) and its wavelenght
Star
If a star moves away from us, weāll see itsĀ ācolorā (light) shift. This is because the light frequency lowers to a wider wavelenght, so towards red, and less energy (light) is able to reach us, distance-wise and void-wise; as much as empty space might seem, thereās still a shtickton of stuff we canāt see nor detect into what we consider āvoidā.
Could it be a subtle input on the nature of Unlimited Void? I wouldnāt be surprised.
Ambulanceās siren
When you hear the ambulance approacing you, the siren has a higher pitch, but strangely enough, when it surpasses you and moves away from you, you quickly realize the sound becomes deeper the more distant the ambulance goes. That is exactly the same thing that happens, but with sound, which is another physical unit running on wavelenght. The wavelenght dilates while the ambulance is distancing us, thus producing a progressively lower tone.
Long story short, this is why Reversal: Red might be a name given to a techinque that pushes stuff away from you. Itās not connected to the objects/people themselves more than the concept of their action, their straying, resulting from Gojouās space and cursed energy manipulation.
The rest of the rant lays down below, donāt continue if you donāt wanna be spoiled.
If you do, welp, not my fault.
As a star move towards us, its light will shift on the spectrum closer to the blue, because its frequency will get higher and the wavelenght will compress. Thus, the energy level is increasing the nearer it gets to us.
I can hear yāall thinkingĀ āOh, THATās why the other one is called Forward: Blue.ā
Yep, precisely :D
Same as before - and on the contrary at the same time - the form might be named after the āBlue-shiftā, the other effect of the Doppler shift.
With the ambulance: as it approaces, you can hear the pitch getting higher and higher; the soundās frequency hightens, getting to its āblueā peak when it is front of you.
Following the concept of something getting NEARER to you, āForward: Blueā worksĀ pulling in, towards Gojou.
Now, we reached Hollow: Purple. This is were the speculations and the fun begin.
You might ask me: but, Moody, you used an image where blue is not the end of the line, thereās violet (purple) right there. So why not call it āForward: Purpleā?
Hollow: Purple then doesnāt seems to make sense. Also, purple is still the mix of blue and red, right?
Well....yes (Hollow: Purple seems to not make sense using the Doppler Shift), yes (purple is stillĀ the result of mixing red and blue) and no (itās shouldnāt be called Forward: Purple).
I think Hollow: Purple mixes the color wheel scheme theory, theĀ āspectralā violet light, and how we are able to perceive violet.
First, letās talk about how the human eye āseesā this color,Ā ācause itās a trick :P
Iām explaining:
Our eyes have nice little cells to differentiate colors, named photoreceptors: cones and rods.
Usually we have 3 types of cones, each of those reacting to 3 main wavelenghts: blue (high frequency) green (medium frequency) and red (low frequency). Rods are all the same and theyāre sensitive to the amount of light (or brightness) in the environment. Theyāre also the ones who permits us to see during nightime (in a grayscale, ācause the cones turn off during the night).Ā
Our eyesā lenses shields us from the high-energy radiations coming from Sun and space, which are detrimental and dangerous (but some of them are very useful) on a variety of level (UVA [black light], UVB, UVC [germicide], X-rays, Ļ-rays...the nasty stuff, :D). Thus, violet and/or ultraviolet cones donāt have a reason to exsist, since those wavelenghts are not supposed to reach the retina.
Following this idea, we cannot see the wavelenght of violet.
But we see violet.
As the frequencies of the colors stimulates one or more cones and a certain amount of rods, we are able to distinguish more tints, like cyan, magenta, yellow (CMYK...yes, those very one), brown, pink, ochre, gray and all the other shades in between...and yes, purple as well, as a mix of blue and red conesā activation. Now this makes sense, right?
Hereās a nice and easy list of how colors come up.
We can see purple, but at the same time, we are not.
We can see it as a ācone-mixā color, but not as a āspectralā color.
Thereās an anatomical condition called aphakiaĀ (greek - āwithout lensā) in which a person doesnāt have (naturally or because of surgery/incident) one or both lenses, so the radiation is able to enter the eye and they canĀ āseeā the ultraviolet light. Still, itās not the bright purple we might imagine; some of them define it as a blueish-purpleish white (if someone whoās reading this is aphakic, please donāt be afraid and share your version with us!).
Complicated? Yeah, I feel you.
In my opinion, āHollow: Purpleā extrapolates both this concepts: it is the combination of Red and Blue as conesā stimulation (color wheel) = Gojouās techinques of pushing and pulling, which escalates from a ideological nonesense into a consequent annihilation, and something that seems real, feels real, really isnāt, but still happens.
Like "Violet Lightā, indeed :)
Same as UV spectrum energy, Hollow: Purple destruction capacity is bordeline-armageddon.
Funny last detail: red is supposed to carry the less amount of energy, while blue has the highest, but in the story itās the opposite. Reversal: Red is said to be twice the strenght of Forward: Blue, because Gojou is actually manipulating Blue (the original form) into Red, converting negative energy into positive, thus increasing the devastation scale.Ā
