There's a post that remarks that Josh Johnson is not typically political but that there is a good message in a bit from one of his recent shows. The point of the bit was that Josh was saying there is no way to entertain yourself into the revolution. Entertainment is a form of escapism and that is good and fine but it is not a tool that will help you actually free yourself or others.
I understand why the op said this about Josh, and I certainly don't think that the point they were trying to make was wrong or that it should be diverted by a debate about the politics of Josh (who I don't know and may not even consider his own comedy overtly political) so I didn't remark on that in my reblog of the post but I do slightly disagree.
I'm watching one of his recent clips and thinking of other clips I've seen of him and Josh often talks about current events, the economy and its effects on people and communities, he references his Blackness and his working class upbringing and to me these are all deeply political topics.
There's discussions in the Youtube left leaning sphere sometimes about how there is no pipeline leading to the left in the way there is towards right leaning content and to be honest I think content like Josh's could be at the beginning of the funnel. Even channels like Waving the Red Flag, or Toonrific Tariq- folks who watch Josh or Tariq could be guided to channels like FD Signifier, Lil Bill, For Harriet, FSTN eventually reaching creators like Olurinatti, Unpoetic Justice and Andrewism.
I don't think this pipeline if we could establish it would 'fix' the issue of youth radicalization towards right wing politics in general but I do suggest taking advantage of the content of these Ytbers if you are trying to prevent young boys, especially young Black boys from falling into much worse content pipelines.
