Uuuuuugh. I'm so fucking tired. Half the people talking about incestuous folks just fetishize us and the other half think we're just a porn category and therefore don't deserve rights because people love to fetishize us. It's an ouroboros of shit. I hate this.
credit goes to u/spru1f from reddit's r/incestisntwrong
Usually, when joe public hears the word ‘incest’ they immediately move to either condemn us as ‘perverts’ or insist that we are ‘sick’ peopl
we're far more normal than you'd ever imagine

99.9% of incest is a result of csa and grooming, maybe include that in your advocacy. there's a reason incest victim support sites and csa support sites very often have resources for each other.
if a 10 year old boy is violated by his 30 year old gym teacher or priest, is he a victim of "sodomitic abuse" or "buggery"? No!
if a black woman is violated by a white man, is she a victim of "interracial abuse" or "miscegenation"? No!
if a 10 year old boy is violated by his 30 year old uncle or mother, is he a victim of "incestuous abuse" or "incest"? No!
there's a pattern here, and yet some would have us believe it's different this time. again.
if you did ask this in good faith, then know that legalizing consensual incest does not mean legalizing or destigmatizing or otherwise significantly redefining abuse. grooming and other forms of abuse would still be both wrong and illegal. those are different legal switches.
This talking point is old and tired. it showed up back during the push for gay marriage and, before then, during the push for interracial marriage. even now, during the push for trans rights, this tired old claim of "normalizing abuse" has again reared its ugly head.
And yet it's never happened
All that changed then was that good, honest people who wanted to live and love freely could finally do so without having to constantly fear the consequences of existing unhidden in front of the wrong person.
i get the feeling you didn't ask this in good faith, though, in which case...
gee, I wonder why only abusive cases get reported
oh, it couldn't possibly be because all the consensual cases see what you think and say about them and hide for dear life, right? nah, they're all just sick and wrong in the head and need to be fixed, and they'll get better once they find the right person (and hey, this kinda sounds familiar…)
“where's all the consensual incest guyyys?? pinky promise we won't do our damndest to ruin your fucking life for being "weird" and "disgusting" and "freaks" x3c”
just. let's think about this for a bit, okay? if we, as a group, stigmatize a concept so much that even victims of abuse find it difficult to speak out about their own abuse because of the crushing societal pressure, how do you think those same stigmas affect the reporting of consensual cases, who want to be in their relationships?
and btw this is, quite literally, the exact same problem as trying to figure out what abuse statistics were like for interracial couples before Loving v. Virginia in the US, for instance. We don't know! We just don't know! the criminalization and stigmatization of these relationships means that so many are forced into hiding (and so many measurements are just not taken to begin with) that we just don't. fucking. know. sampling bias out the Oiseaux™.
