FAQ
What is allowed?
All kinds of fanworks, including, but not limited to: fic, art, podfic, gifs, cosplay, mini painting, poetry, crafts, interpretive dance, etc.
Gen works, ships of any kind, SFW, NSFW, dark topics/dead dove (provided it is tagged properly), written works in any language, having fun and being yourself.
What is NOT allowed?
Hate and bigotry of any kind — sexism, racism, transphobia, queerphobia, any other kinds of predjudice or being an indiscriminate asshole — all not allowed. 41st Millenium is a dark place, but in the here and now let's be civil to each other.
GenAI use — we're here to appreciate human* passion and creativity regardless of skill level

Can I include Rogue Trader and Dark Heresy CRPG characters for this week?
We consider any work focusing heavily on Rogue Trader and Dark Heresy CRPGs by Owlcat to be outside scope of this event, however we understand that many original characters take on lives outside of the game's canon. Creations featuring original 40k women who may be Rogue Traders or DH Acolytes but focus on their lives, backstories, or futures outside of the Owlcat games or their relationships to the canon characters from these games are welcome in this event. Use your best judgement.

How do the prompts work?
Each day (except the last) has two prompts: the source of origin or the faction for the woman you are creating for, and a general prompt. You can use either, or combine them if you wish. The prompts are intentionally broad — the goal is to inspire our participants and give them more creative opportunities, rather than limit them.
Are men/non-binary characters allowed?
The focus of the event is female characters in the 40k universe, and as such, your work for the event should center them. However, we do not limit who else can feature in your works! Many of the canon ladies have male colleagues/romantic partners/family members/comrades/bitter rivals/etc, and if you want to focus on one such relationship, you're more than welcome to. Same goes for your original characters.
Are genderbends/trans headcanons allowed?
You are free to include genderbent/transfem versions of canon male characters in your work as long as it centers a canon woman character or a female OC. (For example, f!Orikan/Vishani work qualifies for this event and so does an ungenderbent version, but f!Orikan/f!Trazyn does not.)
You are free to include original female characters from a canonically all-male faction. (For example if your work centers on an OC Novamarine from an AU where all Space Marines are women, or an OC Blood Angel who realises that she's a trans woman we will happily reblog it)
Of course, you are completely free to center your work on trans women characters, original, headcanoned or otherwise. Trans women are women.

The event will be run on tumblr. Use #40kwomenweek to tag your post and/or mention this blog and we will reblog it. You can also add your work to the ao3 collection here. We will be monitoring the tag and the collection submissions for a week longer after the event ends to give you a little extra time as well.

Additionally — we are only two people, and as such have not familiarised ourselves with every book/game/show/piece of lore out there. We are kindly asking you to include some information in the post with your work, so we can tag it correctly.

Warhammer 40k AU where the "grimdarkness of the far future" is... just a fictional franchise, that was originally conceived as a cautionary tale against the dangers of bigotry, xenophobia and militarism, but, just like irl, spiraled into an actual franchise. Thanks to technological advancements - they were able to make a ton of shows very quickly.
The actual world is that all races coexist peacefully in the Galaxy. Every single character from canon is actually an actor and the fact that the cast is actually just that (a huge group if actors that work together) lead to some interesting matchups.
Actor!Big E and actor!Malcador are actually long time friends of actor!Eldrad and they are kinda sad their characters and actor!Eldrad's don't have screen time together.
A lot of people think actor!Trazyn doesn't even act - he just continues to be himself on camera. Actor!Orikan hates it, but he can't help but laugh at how he himself starts to act like his character.
Actor!Oltyx and actor!Yenekh are actually married irl. In fact, actor!Oltyx proposed to actor!Yenekh on set after their final scene together. The internet found out about it through actor!Djoseras account (who is actor!Oltyx's irl brother, although actor!Djoseras is actually the younger, unlike his character who is an elder brother), who posted a photo of the proposal with him in the foreground doing a "pointing soyjack" meme. Actor!Oltyx commented on it with "bruh ðŸ˜".
Actor!Shadowsun was a long time fan of the show (as in was a total nerd about it) and has a secret AO3 account with a bunch of yaoi fanfics she wrote. She revealed this fact in one of her interviews and ever since then the internet was on the wild hunt for the account.
The 40k IP made a collab with futuristic equivalent of a gacha otome game, where the MC can get and romance Guilliman. Actor!Guilliman and actor!Cawl made a series of videos playing through the collab event (partially as advertisement, partially out of genuine curiosity). The videos consisted of the two either going "yeah, he would say/do that" or "nah, he would not say/do that, he would instead....". The internet suddenly saw a rapid spike in Guilliman x Reader fanfiction.
Actor!Fulgrim was adopted and raised by an Eldar family, so he was REALLY uncomfortable doing Angel Exterminatus. Some changes had to be made to the script because he just refused to go with the original, much brutal version.
Actor!Primarchs did some videos where they would read (PG) fanfictions of their characters. They unknowingly stumbled upon actor!Shadowsun's account and read some of her fics. Actor!Farsight was very confused on why she was behaving very giddy after the videos came out.
Tyranids are actually a (mostly) domesticated species, so all Tyranids on set are either CGI or are real but trained and are just as much of actors as anybody else. They get plenty of treats and pets in-between the scenes for doing such a good job.

Commander Shadowsun will be in for such a shock when she realizes that among T'au Battlesuit Commanders it is not that she is the only "normal" one surrounded by total weirdoes, but in fact she is weird for being the only "normal" person who made it into that position.
First there was "melee combat Farsight" breaking such a massive cultural taboo with using the sword alone that even just mentioning him can get T'au arguing, not to mention the entire Enclaves situation. But he was just one guy among the famous commanders, clearly an outlier.
Also at the time there was Vesu'r R'alai who was already a weirdo for using a XV-09 Hazard Suit, but that is only a cute little detail given that the one thing he was remembered for is what a brutal and ruthless madman he was.
And now we get "The Twin Lance" of Scatterflame and Sunsear who's main driving force of being a pair of highly efficient murder-hobos (which is mostly how Mont'ka as combat doctrine appears to Kau'yon tacticians) is being a couple of bisexual disasters mourning the death of their shared partner.
As it turns out being a successful Supreme Commander is not a position sane people tend to achieve, which makes it even weirder for O'Shassera to be on this spot for this long. Does she secretly wonder if there is also something wrong with her and she just has not noticed yet?
