Ok but think abt how much stronger the ending of TNP would have been if Brambleclaw died as well as Hawkfrost in the fight by the lake. He makes the ultimate sacrifice for Firestar, giving up everything to finally do the right thing and prove once and for all that he won’t follow his father. (Also I know he was still kinda shorty at this point, but at least if he died here he wouldn’t become Squirrelflight’s abuser). This could lay the groundwork for major change in the series later on. Maybe Squirrelflight becomes deputy and then leader after Firestar, maybe she welcomes the Sisters into Thunderclan territory, maybe she’s the one who gets possessed and since she’s a good leader, it makes the bad things she does while possessed that much more jarring. Idk, just an AU that I thought of while rewatching the Holy the Sea MAP for the millionth time.

Ok new headcanon/AU I thought of. What if, when a kit is purposefully named after another dead cat with their prefix, the cat they’re named after becomes their spirit guide, at least into adulthood, if not for their whole lives, and is the first to greet them after they die (assuming they go to the same place as their spirit guide when they die ofc). Since Spottedleaf guides Leafpool, Cinderpelt possesses Cinderheart, and Tigerheartstar trained in the DF. It would make a lot of sense, and fix a couple things, imo. Like ever since she was a kit, Leafpool has been guided by Spottedleaf, as though she were a close aunt or big sister or something, since Spottedleaf cared for Firestar like a little brother (what do you mean she had a crush on him, I don’t buy that). Spottedleaf encouraged her to become a medcat when she found out Leafpool was interested in healing, and gives her advice and stuff on everything from healing to relationships with other cats. Next is Cinderheart. I feel like Cinderheart’s story would have been so much stronger if Cinderpelt had been her guide and spirit mentor and not her possessor. Maybe this rule about spirit guides and naming isn’t common knowledge, so when Cinderheart talks to other about it, they don’t believe her. But Leafpool does, obviously because she gets it. Tigerheart being named after Tigerstar becomes actually plot relevant instead of just symbolism! Tigerstar purposefully targets Tigerheart not only because he’s his grandson, but because he has a special connection to him since he was named after him! Lionblaze’s kits being guided by their namesakes! Fernsong being a soft boy nursery tom because his spirit guide is Ferncloud. Hollytuft being shy and quiet because she feels like she can’t live up to being named after her spirit guide, Hollyleaf. Needleclaw eventually becoming more accepting of others due to Needletail’s influence. So many possibilities, and I’m probably only scratching the surface!!
