Indulging in a little cheese study this morning, using both my mouth and my mind. Pairing a triple cream Brie with homegrown radishes, rosemary crackers, and lapsing souchong tea. The fatty, ultra creamy Brie is fantastic with the sharper, piquant flavours of the other components. And for those interested in the book, it’s essentially an encyclopedia of cheese knowledge. Happy 2019! 19 years ago I started this journal of books I had read. One book per line; no opinions, references, ratings, etc. If I finished it, I wrote it down. If I didn’t finish it, or skipped a few chapters (school reading...), it didn’t make it in. My goal the past few years has been to read 24 books a year, or more or less 2 books a month. I’ve been failing at this, but in 2018 I managed to make it to 19. Sometimes it’s just nice to have goals to work towards; without my goal I probably wouldn’t have made it to 15. This year my goal is 12, because from now until the end of July my reading life is going to consist mostly of treatises on cheese. What are your goals for the new year, literary or otherwise? I’m super excited to announce that I was awarded a spot in the Certified Cheese Professional Training Program through my day job! That means that after next week it will be all cheese, all the time! (Don’t worry, there’ll still be plenty of tea for you.) But I will be spending an inordinate amount of time learning nearly everything there is to know about cheese. At the end of July I will take the @american_cheese_society exam and hopefully pass to gain the CCP title! Returned home last night from an incredible experience in Sonoma/Marin counties of California. It was a working trip learning all about cheese, from the cows themselves to eating the final product. Dinner and A Book- not as thrilling as dinner as movie, maybe, but just as engaging. I am loving learning about the history of cheese, especially the British cheeses.
