If Imbolc Day be fair and bright Winter will have another flight If Imbolc Day brings cloud and rain Winter will not come again
So that’s a possible origin for Groundhog Day

Un jour pour faire des crêpes!
It’s almost February 2, and that date is special for a number of reasons. It’s Groundhog Day, so have some ground hog. Pancakes (represents the sun) and tamales for Candelmas. Imbolc’s coming. It’s halfway to the equinox, too!Â

CEREMONIES for CANDLEMAS EVE Down with the rosemary and bays,            Down with the misletoe ;        Instead of holly, now up-raise            The greener box (for show).        The holly hitherto did sway ;            Let box now domineer        Until the dancing Easter day,            Or Easter's eve appear.        Then youthful box which now hath grace            Your houses to renew ;        Grown old, surrender must his place            Unto the crisped yew.        When yew is out, then birch comes in,            And many flowers beside ;        Both of a fresh and fragrant kin            To honour Whitsuntide.        Green rushes, then, and sweetest bents,            With cooler oaken boughs,        Come in for comely ornaments            To re-adorn the house. Thus times do shift ; each thing his turn does hold ; New things succeed, as former things grow old. Robert Herrick

Gustav Holst: Nunc dimittis - Voces8 06.08.10
Festivals in Marktoberdorf, Germany
The late Robert Farrar Capon, a prolific author of religious books, suggested that a good way to read the Bible was to read it as if it were a movie. In that vein, I've always liked the parts where some character bursts forth in song.
I don't have a clue as far as religious stuff. But Feburary 2nd is the date commemorating the Presentation of Jesus at the Temple. Mostly, my attention to the date is Groundhog Day. As I'm fond of the parts of the Bible-the-movie where someone burst into song, I knew about Simeon, and the Nunc dimittis. I had never heard this composition by Gustav Holst.
Benjamin Britten was influenced by Holst. Listening to  this performance I  thought of  Britten's Corpus Christi Carol, in particular Jeff Buckley's enchanting performance. It was great to hear Voces8  sing Britten's Corpus Christi Carol. It made me appreciate Buckley's beautiful rendition even more.
The cross of Saint Brigid reminds me of the female cross from the #Andean traditions. The symbol of the great river of the milky way - showing us one angle diagonal to where we stand and then the opposite. The flow of things. The rhythm of the seasons, the time halfway between solstice and equinox, the inklings of spring and the reconnecting with the #light of #inspiration. A time for reaching deep into the wells of creation, creating fertile beds, and stoking the winter fire with last years fallen wood. Â
Imbolc!!!!! ( feb 1-2)
called Brigantia, Candlemas, Lupercus, Candelaria, Disting, Oimele, Brid Day. The ancient religions like the Celts called brigith day to day commemorating the triple goddess of that name. We celebrate the goddess in its virgin and fertilizing all, and the god in his more youthful and child sun. It is the festival where we find the light after passing through the dark side of the year, God is born and with it, the sun's power is restored, illuminates everything in its path and gives us renewed hope and pure, it is time to start thinking , start with the right foot, it's time to get, is time of happiness and harmony in the home (meaning home maybe our house, our body, our family, etc..) Rituals! We can begin by lighting candles where the windows of the house, starting the day before until dawn. It is usual that day, make the candles you will use during the other sabbats and ritual purification and household cleaning. The poetic arts, and women stand at this time as we celebrate a day dedicated to women, their inner and outer light. Light candles! Preferably the aforementioned colors, meditate about their beginnings and the things they learned in the dark, to start on the right foot this path of light. (note: Im not an enlish native speaker so forgive my grammar and be free to correct me) Blessed be everyone!
