Editing to add: I feel like the fact that Tristan seemed so chipper after when he went into face James Wessex says something, right?

personally, because i enjoy projecting onto him, i think he's got the propensity for it he just never gave himself a chance to really try. because i mean like for me, being surrounded by people who were good at art it made it hard for me to get into it. i only recently realized im not as bad at it as i had once been led to believe.

and i feel like declan would be in a similar position especially knowing that niall painted. like maybe declan tried it once and sure it wasnt great because you know, nothing is great when you're a kid and just starting something, but niall pulled a classic niall move and was just shitty about it. so declan was like cool never gonna try this ever again and god that makes me feel Some Kind Of Way. anyway!! this is very long and i very much enjoy your declan takes so if you have any thoughts id love to hear them!! (or any thoughts about declan at all tbh i am always thinking about him)

hello! first off, I totally feel you on this, especially when it came to art. I wasn’t surrounded by other people who did it well, I had someone in my life who imparted upon me that it was never good enough. which is why I only get around to sketching about 1-2 times a year. but I digress, let’s talk about Declan.

so I definitely think he’s more artistically inclined than he lets on, if not by practice, then by sheer breadth of interest. He knows a lot about paintings and artists and what made them tick. I feel like if he really unleashed himself, something would come off a paintbrush for him. Not really sure he’d be into the sketching part of it, but given that he likes a wide range of art, I can see him wanting to paint anything from a detailed scene to just going crazy with splashes of color on a canvas until he’d worked it out of his system.

I’m not entirely convinced that Niall actually painted. It’s said a lot in the book that The Dark Lady was a dream thing. I took that at face value, that Niall dreamt a likeness of Mor in a painting, and when they were no longer a thing, that was one of the dream items he sold, and that’s how Greenmantle got a hold of it. I do absolutely think that if Declan had made the attempt at creating something, anything really, but especially a painting, Niall would have been himself (aka shitty about it) so that Declan would be warned away from it.

This is my own personal projection or headcanon or whatever, but I think Declan wants to paint, wants to create, but he’s been surrounded by people who were creators on a grand and unfathomable, unpredictable scale or the people who were created, and he may have perceived that anything he would have attempted would automatically be less by being neither a dreamer or a dream. I follow an artist on Instagram who does stories all the time of just letting the paint do the talking, pouring color, smearing it on with her hands, and it’s a kind of down and dirty Declan isn’t allowed to have. Which, of course, makes me think he’d want it more because of that.

What’s a crackship you love?

My love for crackships burns bright but fast. So many wonderful cracky ships have already passed out of my life, alas. I was thinking about Declan/Henry the other day, though, that’s a good one.
