switching the poults from crates into big playpen brooders - this is for the younger birds, and we’ll be getting a second one setup for the older ones. such a huge huge improvement from just crates + we are able to combine multiple crates together into the playpen since it’s so spacious. and the birds are much happier now that they have so much room to run around!

Been toying with the idea of turning this IBC tote into a chick brooder. I have a friend hatching Guinea hens and he says he’ll have so many me and my wife can have as many as we want. It’s time to get busy on the brooder.

Today's project is converting the old rabbit hutch into a chick brooder!
Bunny butt hasn't been in this in a long while. It's been sitting, waiting for a purpose.
First, the top comes off so I can clean it out. A lot of this process I forgot to take pictures of.
It's not too bad after dumping out the hay and dirt... I scrubbed it out with some all purpose pinesol, changed out the rotting legs, and installed a small floor insert over the hardware cloth.
Now I need to make a lid and put it in the coop for new babies.
Power went out - Not good when you have 7 baby chicks who need to stay 90 degrees & your generator won't run. So I was Mama hen for 8 hours til power came back on. I am so glad too cuz chicks are wiggly & poop so much 🐥😖 Showered with Hibiclense to kill the poo germs. So gross.
Become more self-sufficient and start a chicken farm!
