test weaving of penelope's tapestry on the chiusi skyphos:
reference:
there are some adjustments I need to make for tension, but I'd like to make the next version into a header band for a warp-weighted loom so I can try weaving the whole pot, including telemachus and penelope.
progress?
the proportions on the header band have improved, but I think I maybe should have doubled the weft threads for the warp.
also if anyone wants to knit the heddles for me, please be my guest. the last time I tied on heddles, I put the bar in the wrong place and had to redo the whole thing.
in true penelope fashion, I may need to unweave and start over, but at least now I've got the loom weights and heddles in place.
I started weaving the spear, penelope, and the right border via double-weave with the intent to leave the remaining warp threads unwoven (as they would be on penelope's loom on the pot), but predictably this is giving me tension problems. I either need to increase the loom weights or just weave the black layer and leave the orange warp threads unwoven, and then switch colors once I get to the heddle bars in the drawing, with the black warp threads floating on top. (I guess weft-faced tapestry would be a third option, if I add a ton more tension.)
either way, this is going to take me the full three years of penelope's stratagem, or perhaps the entire twenty years of odysseus's absence, primarily because clearing the sheds takes a monumental effort each time with this double-weave setup (which I'm not even sure is how it's supposed to be done, I kind of set it up based on vibes and what I thought made sense from floor loom setups).
I have 999 problems and warp tension is 997 of them (the other two are my selvedges).
I'm working on an automaton for my next project (which I've never done before) and I've already ruled out 3 different types of movement.
I'm struggling with this concept.
Moons done!
The camera really doesn't do the colors justice. The stars, edge stitch, and hangar are all from a metallic gold embroidery thread. It catches the light so well! Both the bead and the background are a rich, royal blue.

Guys. GUYS.
Leena doesn't run away when she's on the ground and I walk past her anymore. Sometimes she doesnt even get up - she just lays there and watches me.
From a cat who flew away if she even thought she was being perceived to watching me walk past like a foot away.🥹

Washing Results:
Quick wash, Tap Cold-No apparent change.
Air Fluff-slightly damp, no apparent change
Quick wash, tap cold-no apparent change
Quick wash, cool-no apparent change
(Pink bunny is about to go into the dryer with clothes and dryer on low. I don't want to set the dye on the black tummied one yet)
Automatic dry on low- no apparent change
Quick wash on warm-seems to have some bleeding. The upper right of the face and creases on the legs look dirty. Gonna run last bit on hot before this sucker gets a dryer treatment...
Quick wash, hot- the discoloration is gone?! Was it dirt or did it wash out??
Auto dry, medium heat-it looks normal. The coloring is definitely gone. There's no issues with the fabric that I'm seeing.
The black tummy bun had to be washed about 5 more times. I had put it in with something that bled like crazy and amazingly, it all washed back out.
I mean. That's literally the worst bleeding I saw on this during the entire process.
Auto dry, high heat-no apparent change!!
Woo hoo! It's official! I'm in love with this fabric!
A reminder of the before testing:
And after:
I really don't see any changes. It feels about the same as it did at the beginning. The black tummy might not be ~as~ soft as the unwashed fabric? Maybe?

I'm doing some testing with this minky that I got because the wash and care instructions are different from what I was using previously.
I'm making a couple of Little Guys ™️ based on THIS pattern I had saved a while back.
A few things I'm testing/have learned so far:
Checking to see if these fellas will melt in the dryer at various temps.
Checking to see if the colors will bleed (specifically the black)
Holy shit it doesn't leave as much fluff around when I cut it--no fluff in my sinuses
It sews a lot better because of the woven backing
I still need to find a good way to hold it together while sewing because it does shift
This stuff is incredibly soft and I sincerely hope it makes it through some regular wash and dry cycles. If it melts, it's going to be problematic for my brother when he needs to wash my niece's stuffies. I really don't want it to impact his routine.
Test Fellas A and B!
Front and back photos as reference before washing.
Starting with the coldest settings on both the washer and dryer, I'll do the all pink one first with a load then attempt the one with the black tummy. Heat will increase after until I get one that gets mucky.
