Today marks exactly 13 years since I got my first four turkey poults. I had two red bronze and two calicos, and we got lucky in that only one was a tom. That was the start of my flock. The one remaining offspring from that original tom is still here. She just turned 12 around the beginning of June. Time flies.
I don't think Penny will make it through this winter, though. I'm not sure if she'll make it TO this winter. I've been watching her closely, because if I see any sign that it's time, I will not let her suffer. She has a hard time getting around, now. She hangs out around the front of the coop, and doesn't go very far. But, she still comes out to enjoy the sun. She still eats. She isn't getting picked on. I make sure she gets some of the food scraps I bring home from work.
Anyway, it's just cool to see how far we came. From such a small start.
