this has got to be ragebait…right?
if you replaced this with any exotic mammalian pet (imagine this reading ‘my 5 foxes’), there would be a huge outcry and an understanding that whatever attack to this dude’s face occurs, it’s deserved. exotic ‘pets’ that fall outside of that category (reptiles, amphibians, birds, even debatably small mammals) can’t inflict as much damage in most cases, so harassing them to the point that they attack is ‘cute’ and good for a clickbait video. disturbing stuff.
People are getting way to defensive about your post. When you own exotics especially a YouTube channel people are going to look at your behavior and they are going to emulate it. If your hugging your exotic animal it doesnt matter if you're telling people you're a professional and to not do it because humans love to mirror and emulate and if some random YouTuber did it then why cant they do it?
It doesnt matter if these are rescued from the exotic pet trade they still need the care and respect a wild animal deserves especially animals that are as fragile as Toucans. Yes this person is likely experienced in their care but that doesnt mean what they are doing here in this video has the bird's best interest in mind. I know zoo Toucans and the keepers would never do this, they never handle them like this and when they do handle them its very respectful and careful.
On one hand I understand that Sigrid has a lot of history of dealing with intense misogyny in chicken keeping especially in her home country and that shapes her responses and reactions but on the other I do think like its not very professional what she has been doing recently with her lashing out at the community on social media in recent years.
Well when learning chicken genetics you cannot rely on one source, they are not perfect. That even includes Mr. Reeder. You gotta just grab everything you can then sit down and read it and observe what you see in your own flock and breeding projects.
volume UP to experience what its like to have a bluray crow on your lap
Ah a oooooooooo

Reminds me of - actually i cant find a picture so imagine one of those pens that have a fuzzy at the end of them but the fuzzy thing is zebra patterned.

I do like micro rotational grazing for my flock. I think thats one of the benefits of these ugly chicken wire runs, they are easy to move around.
I just moved the coop this morning so here is where it was
Grass is very dead and stressed lol
Here is the place the coop before it was in that location, I moved it here in this area specifically because of the violets and clover, the chickens disturbing the grass help other species get a leg up, already you can see it coming back up faster then the grass
And here the coop was before that, unfortunately I cant really show where they were before this because the neighbor keeps mowing the lawn. Next year I think im.going to section off a square so they stop doing that. Anyway it grows back but with more diversity and more lush. I highly recommend doing this for you chickens.
Even though this is a small space you still get the same benefits.
Less fly load so I only have a few flies flying around in the summer bothering my birds because they are more worried about where the chickens were and not where they are.
Less parasite load, by moving the coop around it helps prevent a heavier potential worm load from happening though I do worm my birds every other season.
Its good for the soil and the plant biodiversity since they disturb the soil and leave it open for more plants to take root.
Grass is also cooler then dirt and help keep the birds from heat exhaustion.
Fresh pasture is also very healthy for chickens and good natural enrichment.

Fantasy Chicken question- I usually reference bantams (because I know people who have or had them)
If a chicken had the magical ability to find treasure, would it be what humans consider treasure (money) or what THEY consider treasure (bugs, eggs, etc?). A mix?
...What would chickens consider treasure
I think it would be fat juicy grubs and worms.
However chickens are birds and birds like shiny things so maybe a character that likes shiny coins. Chickens dont have great beak dexterity so they arent as well known for it compared to corvids since they almost never carry non food objects.
Life so hard being a kitty cat
Honestly i wonder if Beepers pale wattle and comb read as androgynous to other chickens and thats part of the reason why so many roosters are immediately aggressive towards her when meeting her for the first time.

Oh baby fight
Its amazing how much they can grow in a few weeks :) Cellphone is still on the left and Terabyte on the right.
Very important to duel your brother every single day.
Let's roughhouse and track gunk into the house with brother.
Cellphone is officially Beeper sized and approaching his maximum growth. Terabyte is... a small potato on legs
The chickens are concerned about the evil snake attached to me
do you think if chickens were sapient and self-aware, they'd pierce their wattles the way humans pierce their ears?
(This topic is about anthro and fantasy chickens not real chickens)
Unlike our ears which are mostly cartilage, wattles are fleshy, have a very high blood supply, and are packed with nerve endings.
A piercing there would be VERY difficult to heal proper and prone to infection. Unfortunately I could easily pull up irl chickens who have suffered piercing-like injuries through their wattles and they never heal nicely or all the way through from what I have seen. Some chickens tend to produce a lot of keratin-like growths on their comb and wattles on or near the injury site as well which could add another layer of complication to healing.
I know this is tragic information for those furries out there whose chicken characters have pierced or gauged combs and wattles. However keep doing whatever makes you happy with your designs.
I think in an anthropomorphic society I feel as though those kind of body mods on chicken WOULD still be possible but they would be seen as a more on the "extreme" side of body mods since it would require surgery and long term healing to get the desired look. I think it would be on par with dubbing which strangely I rarely if ever see people with chicken characters who have been dubbed which is the removal of the comb and wattles.
I personally think anthro chickens would be more interested in changing their feather color and appearance/shape especially since their feathers can be used to infer gender. I think spur and tail accessories would be thing as well.
I do think there are 2 piercings a chicken could get if they desired. One would be their version of a septum piercing where a piece of jewelry loops through their nares. We already have an analog with Peepers. The other would be wingbands because again we already have an analog irl.
Go forth with your knowledge and body mod your poultry persons
I think whoever put me together forgot to tighten the screws
The betrayal she is giving off
