AIO My friend brings up conspiracy theories as truth and shuts down when I question her "facts"
I want to allow space for both of us to speak to out own experiences and truths. But she will say things like the pharmaceutical companies are increasing the tick populations because they are coming out with a Lyme disease vaccine, or talk about the telepathy tapes as proven scientific fact. I think spreading this misinformation is wrong and dangerous to our society and frankly makes her less credible in general. Am I over reacting or should I just let her speak about these things and stay quiet?
Reddit consensus: NOT OVERREACTING (NOR) (87% confidence)
Top comment: “Some people are just dumb. Your friend is dumb. It is unlikely that suddenly as an adult they are going to develop an appreciation for knowledge, the scientific method, or an understanding of which sources of information are credible.
If they have any other positive traits that outweigh them being a moron, maybe you stay friends. But if incessant blathering about insane baseless nonsense is understandably too annoying for you, NOR to distance yourself.”
Notable comment: “NOR, but your friend is not interested in allowing space for both of you to speak. She doesn't want to be challenged. If you want to stay friends with her, you're going to need to let her just be wrong. Her credibility is not your job to maintain, and if she's happy to spread misinformation, you're not going to convince her otherwise.”
