NEW YORK - Mother's Day at BlackbarnAs it was Mother’s Day, a friend and I decided that since both our moms were in Heaven, we should brunch out and celebrate their lives. As you think about your own dear mother, be sure to listen to Itzhak Perlman perform Dvorák's lovely Songs My Mother Taught Me, arr. Photo by Sora VernikoffI thought, “What a great idea!” My friend selected Blackbarn, located at 19 East 26th Stree,t right across from Madison Square Park. In checking their website, I read,“In the years after high school, childhood friends John Doherty and Tom Struzzieri became celebrated professionals in their respective fields: the culinary arts and equestrianism. The two then established a restaurant that merged their passions, expertise, and collective love of New York City.”After over 25 years working as the youngest Executive Chef of New York’s Waldorf Astoria, Doherty brought his expertise and creative vision to life at BlackBarn. Collaborating with Struzzieri, the partners developed the multi-layered Blackbarn brand in the heart of Nomad, where seasonal, rustic fare converges in a contemporary farmhouse atmosphere.Let’s check out the Blackbarn experience. With that, I ordered Spicy Brussels Sprouts with bacon lardon and blue cheese delivered on the side. Avocado toast at Blackbarn Restaurant.
