I ended up with a scraggly gray wig on him, but I’m not convinced it’s perfect. What hair do people think would look best on him? Name suggestions?
I’m having some trouble getting work done on time these days, now that the world is turning again. I have a bad habit where if I have Real Work to do I punish myself by abstaining from Fun Projects until it’s done. Except this never works, and I just end up doing neither. So I’m trying to be kinder to myself and do both things in moderation.
I finished Kara!
I made her wig and eyes! Because I didn't want to wait 100 years for shipping.
Her faceup took a long time, but I'm so happy with her!! Now I need to make some clothes... but honestly idk when that'll happen.
At first, there was a sleeping head - and the customer said “Let there be eyes!”.
But the head just turned into Hole-y McHolehead - And the artist said “let there be space for the eyes!” - so spaces there appeared, made with a mighty Dremel.
But the holes were too small for big 14mm eyes, so the Dremel had to be used again and again - to make the holes more round, to give them shape, to bring them to life.
And suddenly there were eyes, and the customer said “This is perfection!” - And the artist was satisfied that the mod turned out well.
I keep trying to do a mouth opening mockup on my phone. It seems no matter what shapes I try, it looks doofy. I'm not sure if it's a fundamental flaw of making his mouth open, or if it's the fake look of the white teeth, or if the hair + clothes are screaming "hello fellow kids" too hard for me to look past. (Edit: cropped out some hair and clothes to focus better)
Does it look any more or less natural to yall?

Argh I do not feel like sueding, but I don't want the dye to grind off in her joints either 😫 Is this better or worse than having to make the second of a pair of something? Hmmmm ...
Before and after I ground out some more neck hole to make her head sit down further. I know the difference is so small, but I have a bad habit of leaving necks too long because I'm scared to fix them. This effort is significant to me because I have a phobia of resin dust. I was able to work through it tonight by taking reasonable precautions like respirator and working in the garage over a wet cloth to catch the dust.
I was still shaking a little by the end of the session and had to take a shower to calm down.
I believe I am at or near the max amount I can take out of the head. But I want to suede this joint to protect the dye job after I dye her, which will bump her back up at least 1/8". So I think I need to mod her neck shorter too, in compensation. I don't wanna. 😖
My partner helped me get this Resinsoul Mei in "dark tan" for the winter holidays (Dec. '19)! I love her weird proportions, but her colour was distractingly... gray? Neutral?
So I took matters into my own hands. The second photo was my dye test on the headcap/visual confirmation that the colour is different.
Now. The body is pretty well perfect. The face, however, has been a headache. The dye got weird and splotchy. Maybe I wasn't thorough enough cleaning her? Idk. I cleaned and re-dyed her recently. Same splotches.. so I cleaned her again, and while her head is slightly lighter, it is the same colour, which is a win.
I'm currently working on her faceup.. we'll see how many times I restart it, ahah...
*edit: The first picture is from when I recieved her
