#benjamin lorr

I, myself, do not agree with all the information I see and read and hear about, but part of life is to learn from it. I couldn't have ever formed opinions about such a wonderful band like Pearl Jam, for example, had I never heard crap like New Kids on the Block when I was growing up. Or I could never appreciate great authors like Rick Moody had I never read the crap Marion Zimmer Bradley writes. I'm entitled to my opinion, as you are yours. I believe in sharing our opinions. If you hate Pearl Jam and Rick Moody, but like other stuff I don't, we can still be friends. Music, movies, books, politics, religion, convictions - there are some things that we'll always have to agree to disagree on, but we'll at least be able to share our point of views (albeit, passionately. Wha? I'm a New Yorker, I get loud, hands have a mind of their own, I even have a little bit of 'tude, but all in all, I try to respect everyone).

Recently I read a book review in the NY Metro. The author is Benjamin Lorr and the title is Hell-Bent. The more I read about this book, the more fascinated I became with it. Lorr is going to be reading an excerpt from it next week in Brooklyn and I'm really looking forward to going. I haven't read the book (yet), but what has drawn me to it is the excerpt I read re: competitive yoga and Bikram Chondury, the man who accepts responsibility for this practice.

I joined the Google+ Community Bikram Yoga In The News. Why did I join this community? BECAUSE I LOVE BIKRAM YOGA. It's my favorite yoga practice and I have learned about myself in the last five years. My practice has taught me a lot of about my strengths and weaknesses from my core existence to the superficial, dead cells that are my hair and nails.

Well, after I read the NY Metro book review, I posted the link on my Google+ page and tagged BYITN Community. I mean, if you practice bikram yoga, love it or hate it, this should be of some interest to you.... right? Well, a few hrs later I noticed they untagged themselves. It made me realize how hypocritical and ignorant people who practice yoga can be over knowledge. One person's opinion of the practice should not be stricken; I think for them to untag the post is just foolish. What are they afraid of? Not everyone should just love it blindly, why shouldn't people question why they keep going? Why shouldn't they see that article?

Lorr himself has been quoted in these articles that he still practices, so even though he wrote this book, he still appreciates the positive side of the practice. The moderator of that community is not someone who promotes growth and knowledge if s/he felt threatened by the post. What kind of person challenges someone by keeping information hidden?
